Black lake at michelin's test grounds? Laurens, SC 23rd, 24th, 25th
I was wondering if any other Honda-tech people were going to be at this event. I was gonna try to make it on Saturday, but tmorrow would be better so I could see more of it. I don't know if I want to enter, b/c it's a $55 to enter.
Its a two day divisional, but you can run just one day if it isn't full.
Ryan is there with Renee as his tire warmer and designated spinner in STS. She looped it on two of her 3 runs today and sits 6th. Ryan is 1st.
I know Karen Krause and Shane are there too, but thats all I know for sure.
I ran the black lake (its actually gray
) last year and it was quite fun. Just a huge unmolested patch of asphalt, perfect for an autocross.
Sorry, no linky from me.

It's part of the SCCA's Southeast Divisional Series... info can be found here: http://www.myautoevents.com/pl...38219
its good if you can make it. I ran a FSAE car in A-Mod there for the March of Dimes event. We also test there when Michelin lets us.
Ah, so it's just a huge blacktop that isn't all torn up or hilly etc.? Wow.
Here's somethin I wrote in the events forum b/c I don't come over here much.
I was just told about this today and a short drive thru the country I'd be there. It's a SCCA event and I guess a Michelin thing also, I dunno. I was told it was free, but I doubt that.
Today is 2004 July 24 Saturday

Michelin Proving Grounds
Laurens, SC
Next event is July 24-25, 2004 at the infamous "Black Lake" in Laurens, SC. Registration is open at http://www.myautoevents.com Event flyer with hotel information and directions available soon.
My auto events info....cost etc. inside
Cost I believe is $55 if you wanted to run? Youch, maybe I won't be able to test out the Azenis afterall. But it'd be fun to go watch.
Well we're gonna be up there tomorrow w/a few of my buds. If it's $55 for me to run tomorrow forget it, I'm a poor college student savin for car stuff...ahha, don't make sense.
I've done one soloII event last summer or so at turner field, now w/the falken azenis I think I could muster something a lil better, but it's just for fun. Time to find the lawn chairs and the sun screen.

I am here, 4th in G-Stock 0.8 behind a Mini thats leading..
As far as entering.. not going to happen tomorrow. Karl was letting some people in this morning for a late fee, but neither tech nor registration will be open tomorrow.
Feel free to come out and watch.
For info the site is 1450 feet by 400 feet, totally flat and no light poles.. Its Michelin's "Black Lake" testing pad in Laurens SC. (the "black lake" portion is actually the front straight of a 2 mile test track) In addition to that track there are 4-5 other tracks there, various skidpads, etc (we only get to be on the black lake though) The sad news is, Michelin has informed us this will be our last event there due to management change.

AHa, yeh we're just comin to watch...too poor to enter that one anyways. Man, don't no one pay attention to the lil civic headed toward the test track. I heard it ends at 3pm tomorrow so we're leavin Augusta at 9:30. I also heard to bring a lunch??? b/c there's really no restaurants around there?...oh yeah sunscreen, straw hat, and lawn chairs
dang sunscreen didn't hold up to it's job, black lake owned my skin but saw a ton of nice cars rippin it up
This was one of the most fun races I've had all year. It was also the closest race I've had all year as well. Got sunburned today because I didn't wear sunscreen. Mainly because it was hot enough and I had to drive the racecar home and didn't want to have sunscreen oil all over me after sitting in a race seat and no AC for 2.5 hours.
I decided a while back that being greasy from sunscreen was better than being burned.. course.. with running around playing event chair i didn't put any on today and feel like a BBQ rib..
thanks to those that came out, I wish Heath hadn't set up so much of a HP course.. but oh well it was still a blast to drive especially the last two corners/finish on saturday.

Hp would have helped but it was still lots of fun even in a low powered car. I managed to pax 7th I found out this morning even in my 112 hp car. I'd like to see todays pax. Do you have the results Jon?
Todays course was just awesome. I was flying going into the slalom on the backside just barely not hitting the rev limiter.

I dont have the results.. i was just trying to load the trailer so i could go home (all while trying to clap for people getting trophies)
I loved both courses, it was jsut really hard to make up ground on the Mini and the Celica with lots of third gear space.. my poor 91 HP just isn't there. I think i could have closed the gap if i wasn't on 40 run Hoosier S03s, but Carpenter and Brown were just flying, so i dont think i was catching them anyway.
I hope that Karl gets the results up soon, I wish i had tried to grab a list before karl packed everything up.

fer real. Whoever was gettin 37's in the Camaro...impressive. And the 88-89 civic hatches, glad to watch you guys whip around the course. It was a big course, we walked it for fun, and man, 3rd gear prolly got used up in it some. Even though i'd of been slow b/c b16 don't matter there, it'd of been fun.

Here you go. I didn't spend enough time to take many pics to sell this weekend so I just put all of them cropped up on my site.

The rest of my pics and a short writeup is at http://rdtmotorsports.com/news/072504.htm

That was Jason Minehart, but not sure how he finished.

Jason ended up 6th, he was struggling which is abnormal for him (he won both Atlanta and Gainsville divisionals.)
Karen, I dont think Karl had a problem with my course sweeps.. he likes his events to go fast... er.. smooth. Its the Subaru drivers who are banning me

Jason's tires were dead. For the 2nd day, he switch his 205s to the front, and put his 225s on the rear in order to fix the *PUSH*!! The 225s were THAT Toasted. Of course, he dealed with oversteer problems Sunday.

Seems Jason and I were fighting the same problem then.. Maybe we can show a more true self performance at Norfolk.
