Default OT: San Diego area Luders check in!

so I got my orders in finally and this December I will be moving to San Diego!

just wondering who all I will be near and if you have an opinion on where to and not to live at.

I would like to have a house with a garage, but with only a grand a month for rent I doubt that will happen. so fill me in on some ideas and such.

I want a good safe neighborhood, but I also don’t want to spend a grand and only get a studio apartment ya know.

TIA!

EDIT: i have heard the normal of stay away from east county, logan heights, San Ysidro, Chula vista, and east of down town.

I don't live there, but if I was gonna stay on the west coast
that's where I would go. People are a little more laid back there
than LA. Say hi to all the Pacific Beach honeys for me

Daygo is an awesome place to live. I'll keep an eye out for places that are in your budget. A lot of my gf's family is out in Chula Vista... in the area thats "booming". They've got nice big houses all around them.

thanks man!

here is the list that Oscar sent me...

I will first start off telling you areas where to stay away from:

- National City -- ghetto, gang activity (although the Naval base is in National City)
- Logan Heights -- the breeding ground for gangbangers (located on the other side of Coronado, under the Coronado Bridge, which is one of the "richest" parts of S.D.)
- East county in general -- areas like El Cajon, Santee (people call it Klan-tee...), etc. Aside from being too far from everything, those areas are full of hillbillies and shady people.
- Some parts of San Ysidro, which is pretty much the border with Mexico -- although this area has developed nicely in the past years.
- West and SouthWest Chula Vista -- This area is similar to National City (they are also close to each other) I went to high school in that area, and it wasn't that bad, but for someone that's new to the city, I wouldn't recommend it.
- East of downtown and its outskirts (Hillcrest, etc.) -- Your stereotypical ghetto community next to downtown...yeah, we got one too!

These are the nice/rich/affluent areas. Keep in mind that some of these areas are extremely expensive to live in--even if renting:

- La Jolla -- It's like S.D.'s Beverly Hills, next to the beach
- Scripps Ranch/Poway -- lots of engineers live in that area; $$$ houses/condos
- Mira Mesa -- Combo of engineers/college students live there. But it's also the riceboy capital of the world. Some people claim that the term "riceboy" and the "scene" originated here!
- Coronado Island (it's not really an island, more like a peninsula, but you have to cross the Coronado Bridge to get there faster) -- Rich, retired people live there. Gorgeous scenery. Very calm area.
- Pacific Beach/Mission Bay/Point Loma -- Closeness to the beach, A lot of college students opt to live in these areas.
- East Chula Vista -- one of the fastest growing communities in San Diego. Nice houses and still close to major freeways.
- Del Mar/Cardiff -- Richer than La Jolla

i may hit some of yall up when i get there for my house hunting leave. we could roll around in my rental and beat the **** out of it while you tell me good and bad neighborhoods lol.

Just checked apartment finder..... holy crap. avg 1 bed apartment is $850! right now i pay that for a 1500 SQFT, 3 bed, 2 bath with a washer and dryer!!!

You forgot to mention BONITA. I live down the street from the new communities in East Chula Vista and they are real nice, believe me. Brand new developments, brand new shopping centers, and brand new houses. San Diego is a damn good place to live. There is a lot of **** to do around here. Try looking into a town in Chula Vista named Bonita. It is in a valley and different then most other areas around the south bay. A lot of the streets in Chula Vista tend to be in a gridlock type of system. In Bonita, there is a lot more housing built in and around the valley. Much more twist and turns for my SH, and less stoplight to stoplight streets. Good luck w/ finding a place. Some of the towns you mentioned are south of the interstate 8. And they all are within minutes of each other. Just trying to put Bonita on the map .
