I am in need of some advice on a purchasing and installing a new timing belt for my 95 civic ex. What I am looking for is an affordable, yet quality belt. If you could point me in the right direction I would be most thankful. I also could use some advice on instillation techniques. Should i have it done professionally, or is it something that i could do with the help of an experienced friend? I know that if it is installed incorrectly i will destroy the internals of my engine, yet i would like to cut out the high price of a garage doing the job.

 

timing belt isn't something you should skimp on. Get an OEM one from honda. While you're at it get a new waterpump, tensioner and tensioner spring. If you have no idea what you're doing take it to the dealership. Or like you said, if you have a friend that knows what he's doing make an afternoon out of it. Getting your hands on a Helms manual probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

 

Agreed, I always use Genuine Honda parts. Timing belt is not something you should do cheaply. I would also do a major tune up too...

 

Don't go cheap on a vital belt of the engine. Maybe the P/S and A/C you can get by with (I do). But not on a Timing Belt.

While you're at it, if you have the $$, get an OEM Honda Water Pump. Save headaches later on PLUS save time. You can access the water pump at the same time you have the timing belt off.

19200-P08-004 WATER PUMP (YAMADA) $55.19

For an OEM Honda Water Pump. Also, don't go cheap on waterpumps either. OEM Honda last well over 100k (under normal driving conditions WITH keeping your cooling system top knotch). Some aftermarket ones don't even last 30k (from what I've seen and read).
