there are.. i found them by... searching

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=636988

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=149461

also, you have to install the 1st gear along with the ATS final drive because the USDM 1st doesn't fit, the ATS counter shaft is a different size outer diameter. The ATS final drive kit should have everythign you need.

So you can cop an attitude, pipe up and mention to Search but have nothing else helpful to contribute?

Great.

I think it was all covered in both the posts you listed.

The addition of the 4.929 already makes the 1st gear rip, heck I'd even like it if it was a tad longer not shorter which is what would happen with the 4.93 and their 1st.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

thats what i was thinking but it seems like if you have a stock set up you probably wont need the longer 1st.

actually, you can get the jdm 1st gear (which usually comes with the ATS final drive - and retain the same ratio as stock usdm 1st gear.

The point of getting ats first is to bring the 1-2 shift closer together.

I believe Mike K has tried it a LONG time ago.....

I'd like to think that one day I'll be trying the ATS 1st, 3,4,5 gears as well.....

The ATS 1st is longer than stock, is it not?

My car is still stockish or whatever and sometimes I wish I had a taller 1st gear, but mostly only for launching at autocrosses. But it's not that huge of an issue.

Now if you had a more agressive setup or some more serious power either NA or FI the 1st gear becomes a spinning gear and again almost useless and something you'd short shift through, and even with the ATS 1st it can still be useless.

These days I've been wishing for a more agressive 5th gear but that would limit top speed too much and the available gears out there don't fit into my scheme of things all that well.

Funny thinking of those I know who went to a GSR 5th

Ya know what, my stupidity, I take it back, you're right, I was lookin and thinkin of their close ratio 3rd 4th and 5th gears.

But as an aside the OLD ATS 1st was the one We were all interested in at one time when it was 2.929 as opposed to the new 3.077

But I till don't think it's all that worth it for the new one.

I'd still just stick with the stock R 1st.

I think it was all covered in both the posts you listed but as I already mentioned above before, the combination of the 4.929 and the ATS 1st is overkill at least and depending on setup could render 1st gear totally worthless.</TD></TR></TABLE>

i wasn't trying to throw out some attitude.

the ATS first gear is 3.077 if i remember correctly.

Ok then, but the way you posted for him to just search wasn't an overwhelming assist.

But on the other hand me forgetting the 1st gear ratio and whatnot didn't make me any better so I think it's even.

Here's a quick graph with the stock R gears with a 4.929 FD on 195/55/15 tires:

Total gearing in first gear:
Maximum speed in first gear: 15.92067
36.5 mph

Total gearing in second gear:
Maximum speed in second gear: 10.375545
56 mph

Total gearing in third gear:
Maximum speed in third gear: 7.186482
80.8 mph

Total gearing in fourth gear:
Maximum speed in fourth gear: 5.456403
106.4 mph

Total gearing in fifth gear:
Maximum speed in fifth gear: 4.179792
138.9 mph

And here with the ATS 1st gear, same 2nd to 5th R gearing and the 4.929 FD and 195/55/15 tires:

Total gearing in first gear:
Maximum speed in first gear: 15.166533
38.3 mph

And here with the 4.929 FD, with ATS OLD 2.929 1st (which way back when the posts were made above was the one we all did consider) and stock R 2nd to 5th on 195/55/15 tires:

Total gearing in first gear:
Maximum speed in first gear: 14.437041
40.2 mph

I've driven rodneys car with the old 2.929 1st gear and while it helps, it is still almost a useless gear with his setup. But the old 1st was the one we wanted, then it was discontinued. I think rodney actually got one of the last ones on Yasu's shelf.

Anton, is that a spreadsheet you're using?

Could you do those graphs to 10k rpm with 205/50/15 tires and ats 1st, 3,4,5 AND ATS final/ jdm?
