Default Performance Improvements Questions from 2004 Civic EX Owner

Hey,

Been poking around on this forum for a while now, didn't find the answers I was looking for so I'm trying this whole "post a topic" idea out.

I recently bought an '04 Civic EX and while I am absolutely in love with it, I'm starting to look at performance improvements available. I'm perfectly happy with the torque in the high RPM's, but I'd love to add some HP to the low side ( 2k -> ) and I'm wondering if anybody had any suggestions? I've looked around and found a few options for headers, intake systems and I've even read as much about available super/turbochargers as I could find. I'm shying away from cam modifications, the less I can change my mpg the happier I'll be

So I'm hoping this forum community can help point me in the right direction in several ways:
a) which one of these areas would you recommend I start with?
b) are there any solutions I missed above (other than swapping out the engine)?
c) can I even obtain a supercharger for the 2004 EX?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

intake and exhaust would be where i started and then from there see if you want to start spending more money on it, im not too familiar with the newer model civic tho, alot of the people on here have 92-95, try Jackson Racing for that supercharger. and if you want a Turbo, you can use cheapturbo.com (sp?), I can't really think of much more, i think there are other 04 Civs in here, so just try searching for them, if not im sure there are plently of knowledgable people.

There are turbochargers I think for the '04 Civic. The '04 Civic has the D17 engine which has been used since '01...so it might work.

Like Harper said, I would start out with an intake/header/exhaust.

Any open air intake will improve your torque a bit. A drop in filter like K&N would also do the job without having to remove your factory airbox, but the improvement won't feel (or sound ) quite as nice.

For a header, I would go with a ceramic (stainless if you want to spend the extra money) 4-2-1 header (a 4-2-1 improves midrange power for the most part while 4-1 headers aim for high end power). I suppose DC Sports makes those for the 01-04 EX.

Any cat back exhaust will finish off the system and bump you up to larger diameter pipes.

As far as gas milage concerns, usually anything that adds power takes away from MPG. Though I have heard people swear that AEM intakes have increased their milage, its probably all in their heads.

Anyway, this will probably cost you around $1000-1500 if you buy quality parts and will give you a taste of the available performance mods out there. Your car will definately sound a lot meaner and you'll feel improvments throughout the powerband.
