Default 94 Accord EX radio problem...

I just got my first car...a nice used 94 Accord Ex...and everything is great so far besides the radio...I noticed (and it is very random) there will be popping/crackling/ wierd sounds whenever I have the radio on...I was wondering if anyone could help me fix this problem without having to pay someone else to...anyways thanks for all your time and help

:D

loose ground inside the head unit itself maybe...we've fixed a ton of those...similar problems. random sounds coming through the speakrs...sometimes you could actually hear the laser assembly move when the unit played cds (assuming you have one), etc... could be a busted speaker i guess...or bad connection...no clue unless you specify if you have a cd player and how it plays with that.

well...go to a local electric repair shop or your friendly audio store...they should (if they are a good buisness) listen to it free of charge and give you their opinion. should they think that it is a loose ground of some sorts...then i would pull the radio myself and take it to a repair shop (they may not touch it tho...so you'll have to search). its just simply resoldering loose connections....granted i cant hear your problem...so it could be something else.

Well, the question is do you even own casettes? CD players can be had for under 100 dollars almost anywhere. Maybe you're better off just getting a cheap CD player for now. Or a good one if you have the cash. But why fix a tape player if you have no tapes.

That is a good point...but lets say I was to go out and buy a cd player for my car...how much do you think it would be to have that installed...and also can you suggest any better performing cd players? and ones I should stay away from?

Thanks again

Any CD player from a major manufacturer (Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, etc) should be fine. Most shops charge around $60 or so to install a headunit but you can do it yourself.

Check out http://www.crutchfield.com for a selection of different headunits. If you order through them, they send you an install kit with easy to follow installation instructions so you can do it yourself.
