Default Want to hide your engine wire harness? This is for you.....

New pictures added at bottom of thread

Look closely at the rear mount. There is a small area underneath the rear mount that you can route all of the engine harness under. It will NOT pinch the wiring...trust me!

Pull out everything that goes to the engine from the driver side harness plug and re-route it through the cabin and back out of the main firewall plug that is located in the passenger foot well. Run these wires under the rear mount as well. When you have all of them run, make sure to tape them all up so everything down there is black and you can't see any of it.

You'll need to be careful doing the above [seperating the driver side harness] because you have to seperate what goes to the engine and what goes to the headlights etc. Also note that the MC wiring comes through this harness.

You will then need to slightly extend the wiring right before the plugs so they can reach the bottom of the intake manifold where you will mate it with the actual engine harness. Make sure to leave enough slack for the engine to move! Move the MAP sensor assembly up into this spot as well.

Keep the driver side engine firewall plug. You will run the alternator cable through this plug! It's the perfect spot. Pretty straight forward IMHO.

What about the headlight wiring, fusebox, windshied wiper motor wiring and the window washer nozzle tube?

Well, take a look:

Run the window spray nozzle tube inside the driver side fender and have it exit here. There's not really a better spot for it unless you want to ditch the whole assembly, which I do not.

Likewise, run the wiper motor wiring here and then have it enter the cabin [via the under-fender harness that you are doing!!!] to meet up with the rest of the harness.

The above is how you're going to run the headlight wiring, radiator fan/ac fan wiring etc. This is a great exit point...it appears to be the only one that actually has access to the interior cabin. I couldn't get any wire to go completely through any of the other plugs. This is a picture of the passenger side....you'll do the same on the driver side for the headlights and cruise control wiring (if you have it!)

Make sure you use a wire loom to exit the cabin because it's pretty tight and you don't want to pinch any wires. It won't permanently attach to the fender like this....I just did that to keep the wiring out of the way while I roll the car in and out of the garage.

What does the interior look like now? Haha....

It's still a work in progress, and surprisingly I know where everything goes still. Masking tape and a Sharpie are my friends!

My firewall's girlfriend. He's getting ABS as well. Lucky guy!

This last picture is another progress picture of my GSR gauge cluster w/hybrid bezel. It's coming along great! Just need to a little more sanding, a TAD bit of bondo and then paint.

At any rate, it's really a straight-forward procedure. I didn't take pics of everything 1) because I'm still not totally done and 2) because I'm just kind of lazy.

I'm sure there are other ways to do this, but this is just what I have found best for my personal situation. I'm in no way saying this is the 'right' way to do it; maybe just the logical way

If you have any questions, just ask!

There's NO other spot than the factory spot to mount the wiper motor.

All you can do is hide the harness that goes to it and in the meantime ditch the huge plug with it.

The driver side harness is re-routed through the interior and then exits at the main firewall plug. Except the headlight wiring from the driver side....you'll route this into the fender.

I had to rearrange some of the pictures so they may have been down for 5 seconds or so. Glad you can see them now though!

Well I'm getting the engine bay painted relatively soon and while the engine was out I figured why not?

ABS is going to be a PITA....I still don't have it all sorted out yet, but I will get it done! lol

OK so you took the plugs off the wires to make the wires run THROUGH the metal right...

right...

question and idea I've been pondering about:
Why not run the wiring for headlights etc IN the double plating going to the front? I don't have any cam available at the moment, else I'd take some pics of what I mean...

BUT...

you can do what you did from inside-out, then run the wiring UPWARDS... there you run it into the dual plating going to the front wheel wells... (check the topic in here about fender braces... you will see some holes to which the fender braces are attached, same dual plating I'm on about)...

In the front, behind the corner lights, the dual plating has an actual opening through which the wires can easily exit... you'll be right behind the headlights and everything... nice hiding me thinks...?

let me know what you think

and uhmmm the hole you-re using to exit the cabin... isn't that the hole where the moonroof drainage exits?... just checked and YES it is... soooo this way is no good for us who have that drainage...

need to find another way I suppose...

No, you can pull all of them through the passenger side rubber plug without taking the electrical plugs off. It's very hard to do, and you have to be careful....but it can be done.

You have to cut the plug off on the driver side...it's just too big to come through the rubber part.

You mean in this section, right?

Yes, you can do that....but take off your fender and have a close look. There's no entry point into this area directly from the cabin. There is an excellent exit point right by the headlights, but the entry point from the cabin is still lacking.

You can do it like this, though:

And then run it the entire length all the way to the headlights. I still need to lengthen some of my wiring before I can do that, so I didn't push it all the way to take the picture.

And if you can't use the plug I'm using because it exists as a drainage opening, just drill a small hole and use a grommet. The plug I'm using is the only plug that had a large enough opening all the way to the cabin to accept such a large bundle of wires.

If you can't use that plug, you're going to have to bust out the drill and be careful!

Again, you're probably going to have to drill a hole. Like I said above, the other plugs in this fender area don't go directly into the cabin.....you'll have to drill into the cabin to make one of them enter properly.

Wow, looks like some great progress is coming along for you.
Now just hide all those wires on the interior

It looks like you cut sooooooo many wires.
Your interior is just WIRE all over!

You are NUTS!!!
I hope you get all the wiring beck together right.
I don't want to see a post from you later on like, "my headlights turn on when I press the horn" or "My wipers come on when I try to start the car... engine doesn't crank over".

Oh - for ABS there is a guy on here that did it earlier this year. He went 5 lug and used everything from the teg suspension including the ABS. I think he had custom axles made for it, but that was about it from what I remember.

Passenger side harness is finished:

Cabin exit and 'tunnel' entrance

This is the passenger side harness....notice how it goes up behind the blower. This is where you will exit the cabin with it! Make sure to use a loom at the exit as to not pinch anything.

You've got to stick your head way back into the engine bay to see the headlight wiring.

Condensor switch and radiator fan wiring. Will go straight to these locations; minimal visibility....especially when wrapped in a loom.

A/C comp wire and a/c fan wiring....same setup.

Overall view. I still have to wire in the cornerlights, but you get the idea!

Driver side. This is where it exits the cabin...I'll run it inside the fender tunnel just like the passenger side.

As you can see the factory grommet is still there. Take a razor knice (xacto or whatever they're called) and hollow it out, making sure to leave the OEM lip so it can press back into place.

Here's a view under the dash on the driver side.....pretty simple, and the exit grommet is very easy to get to!

looking good... had to search to get this thread back

anyways... I wanted to do aal of this in this vacation, but seems I just don't have enough time... which sux

but I guess it'll be for a later date... also, from looking at your pics, I guess I'd either have to pull the engine, or use a lift or something, to get the car up (to reach under the intake manifold all the way down...

looking very good !

get pics up when it's finished and the engine is back in will ya
