i need opinions on what you guys think i should run on a JDM SOHC ZC as far as the tranny goes

USDM Si tranny

JDM DOHC ZC tranny

please add why you think i should run the tranmission you choose, right now i am leaning towards the USDM Si tranny

i would say use the si tranny because it drops right in(no mods or parts needed) if you go with the zc tranny you need to do an axel swap or get an extended shaft for it to fit. and also si tranny are pretty cheap

Performance - ZC
Intermediate shaft allows for less torque steer.

Cost - Si

I justswaped out my ZC tranny on my SOHC, for an USDm SI tranny and the gearing sucks! The ZC tranny is very short, on the freeway I would be going 80 MPH @3300 RPM, now, with a 91 SI tranny i am @ 2100 RPM at the same speed. the tranny does not seem to be geared right for the ZC power curve. I am rebuilding the ZC tranny with new bearings and can't wait to throw it back on.

Dude, you are smoking crack.
The si shaft has a completely different input size compared to the zc. Are you sure you got a ZC tranny and not another SI?

ZC all the way, it makes the Si trans feel like an HF tranny Oh and you DONT need a ZC intermediat shaft. all you need is Bseries/ZC inner joints on stock dx/si axles and your good too go bang on foo's with Si tranny's

Word. No way is an SI tranny at 2100 rpms.. My buddy's HF is almost exactly at that range. Even my old DX motor was up around 3.5-4k at 80-85mph.

My 4-speed tranny does 80 @ 4K. Shouldn't a 5-speed bring the RPMs down lower than the 4 speed since you have that OD gear?

Depends on the tranny gear ratios.
