well, sorry, but I have to vent a little. Just got off the phone with Andy's Auto Sport and am pissed as hell. I ordered a C-West double-sided carbon fiber hood from them w/ the inverted scoop. Cost $640 shipped. I received the hood, and noticed the the area where the carbon fiber curves in for the scoop is pretty badly "scratched" beneath the resin. Definitely not a shipping problem. Now I understand that CF hoods are usually handmade and that there will almost always be minor flaws such as airholes, and spaces in the weave etc., but I felt that for $640 I should've gotten a lot better quality. Anyway, I finally get in contact with someone (after trying for 4 days), only for him to tell me that I shouldn't expect it to be great quality, and if I wanted to wait 4-6 weeks and pay $140 to ship the hood back to them and another $140 to send me an exchange hood then I could do that. But why should I have to pay $280 in shipping just to get something that I should've gotten in the first place. BS. There are some pics of the "scratches" I am speaking of below, not to mention it looks like someone there tried to touch them up w/ a permanent market. Normally I wouldn't care too much, but I am putting my car in about 5 shows before winter and every tiny detail counts.

 

yea ima noob so its gonna sound gay but can you like wetsand it down and spray clear over it??? just given you some options so you dont have to waste nemore money.

Sell it and get another one from somewhere else. Andy's sucks both for bodykits also. Do a search and you'll probably find some horror stories. What i did was find someone local that may have the hood in stock and look at it before buying it. I ended up going to Ultima Performance in NY for a hood for my old ek. It was awesome and i got to see it before i bought it.

As far as i know....spoon, fiber images, and jdmshit carries some good hoods.

 

but will i still get that shine back after wetsanding an buffing?

 

i just am nearly broke w/ all the **** i've been buying so, i'd hate to sell the hood (say on ebay) and be lucky if i got $350 for it (a recent brand new c-west cf hood on ebay was listed at only $325 and didn't even sell)

 

dont trust ebay for anything!!! i doubt they'd be selling any type of authentic hoods on there at all. I'm in mass........what type of car is it for? maybe someone around here will buy it

That hood is not C-West. C-West body parts are fiberglass and not carbon fiber.

its fixable..you need to wetsand it and through another clear coat on it......but shame on you for buying for 640!!!..what were you think you could get a VIS one shipped for under 400...cwest style..

 

That hood looks unacceptable....

There is no excuse for that...for the price you paid for it, the hood should be flawless!

I would see if you can have someone fix it and make the company pay for it. You shouldn't have to go through the hassle of fixing their mistake.

If the company doesn't want to pay for their own mistake you should fix it and then sue them for the bill... some companies are dicks like that and won't help you unless you sue them...sad but true...

yes, you can really see that milky/hazed look. OMG, I am a complete idiot (no comments please, lol). i just went back to Andy'sAutoSport.com to look at the hood I bought and it is "C-Wings", not C-West - must've been 1/2 asleep when i bought it. also , i would've bought VIS, but the closest thing they have to that hood is the "Invader" style, where it goes up slightly before the scoop, and doesn't look that good compared to the one i got. see link, and scroll to about 1/3 down the page (item # CW-H98CW).

But wetsanding and buffing will take care of it. OR you could just get it painted.

that means that they started to wet sand when the resin wasnt fully cured..

wow thats really SHitty business....... sounds like the guy totally blew you off, because knew he wasn't going to help you and just spat a quick shipping quote to **** you off and make you keep it. Now that is what kills a company quick, and word of mouth travels fast. *** em, they should have at least tried to work with you, being that it was definitely their fault

Yes...It's a company called C-WEST...the company that originally made that style of hood.

 

i'm going to call back now and see if i can speak with a manager or the highest person on the chain that i can. i will definitely be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. just bullshit, now no matter what, my cars not gonna be ready for a show on August 7th
