I read an article on ti.net on how to cut and weld sections on and off of your stock shift in order to shorten the shift throw and even make the lever shorter.

Has anyone done this with any success?

 

never heard of welding. but I hacked like 4 in. off my dc short shifter

 

Making the lever shorter isn't really a short shifter.

 

the article i read said that you can cut the shifter between the pivot ball and where it bolts to the linkage and weld an extension in there so it will make the throw shorter, you cna also hack off some length from above the pivot ball to make the height of the shifter shorter.

In theory that would work by cutting it between the linkage and pivot ball. The only thing i would worry about is the strength of it once it was welded back togeather. You don't want to be on the highway and downshift fast and end up with the whole shifter broken in half. You can get them real cheap so I would just buy one.

 

I didn't do it in my integra, but in my old mx6. I hacked off a few inches off the top and added an inch between the linkage and the pivot ball. A friend of mine did the welding for me and it did work quite well. Of course make sure the welds are clean.

 

proper welds are stronger than factory....again....PROPER
