WEAK SPARK
I installed a rebuilt dizzy in my 1990 dx. But it's almost impossible to start the car. It takes a lot of playing with the dizzy for the car to even start and when it does it doesn't run well. The spark is extremely weak so we took the dizzy out and installed it in another car. It started right up. Strong spark there.
What could be the problem? my car is not starting without loosening the dizzy and moving it around. One mechanic told me to check the ECU. I did with the whole jumper thing, but the CEL does not blink at all. what could be the cause of the weak spark.
It seems as if it sparks sometimes and doesn't spark at other times.
Could it be the timing and if so how do I adjust the initial timing.
I've had this problem for over a month now and the problem is that there are no good mechanics in my area so that's why I want to try to fix it myself.
please help

try another ECU. Could be when the dizzy went out, it took the ECU with it. I'm asuming it's a OBD1 with the jumper and CEL blinking. if it dosent blink that is a code 0 or your ECU.
The check engine light doesn't do anything different from what it usually does. With and without the jumper. And the light on the ECU just comes on once at the same time the key is put in the on position and thn goes off after like a second. No blinking whatsover from either light.

So it's a OBD0 then with a CEL and a light on the ECU it's self. Then the jumper your talking about is the Timing jumper. You short that out when your ajusting the timing so the ECU cant change it while your working on it.
As for your dizzy, is the cap on ALL THE WAY? If it's off a little the gap is too wide and no flow to the spark plugs. Also check the dizzy plugs that there good and tight. On the small, 2 wire, plug, with your ignition on, check that your geting power at the BLK/YEL wire. This wire is the main power in to the ignition coil.
