Karting helmet?
Hey guys,
I'm helmet shopping for the local Kart racing, the requirements are
A Snell rating of 98 or better.
My question is, what is better? Is a M2000 better?
I'm interested in this helmet.
http://www.saferacer.com/hjcclsoco.html
It has a DOT approval and M2000.
Here is the snell website but, I'm not to savvy on the lingo.
http://www.smf.org/stds.html
Thanks.

Uhh, read your signature again, and then decide if a $124 helmet seems suitable. I'm not going to say that helmet wont work well because I don't know the answer, but I'd shop around a bit more just to be on the safe side.
This looks like a more suitable helmet for karting, but is NOT fire resistant, so keep that in mind if you do other forms of racing where there is a risk of fire:

If you do multiple forms of racing, this may be a good choice (ignore the picture, it comes with a full face shield):

Good choice IMO, especially since its the same as the helmet I suggested except with higher certification, and it costs the same amount.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Most helmets are given Snell ratings in increments of 5 years. (i.e. helmets made 2000-2004) have a Snell 2000 rating.
It would be financially wise to wait until the Snell 2005 helmets come out so that you get the most use out of your helmet.
If you club has a Snell 98 cutoff then it won't be long before it gets bumped to Snell 2000.
Here's all the info you need on Snell Ratings http://www.smf.org/
