Default How much power can a stock ITR gearbox take?

I'm planning to build a 550whp boosted ITR. It's going to be used for both track and drag. So it's going to see a lot of abuse. Anyone have any idea if the stock gearbox will hold up with so much power and abuse?

550whp is going to be completely useless unless you are running 26" slicks constantly lol

Have you ever even been in a honda with more than 300whp?

I can't speak for 500whp, but it handles 300whp no problem. The only issues I have are 3rd and 5th synchros. I missed a couple of shifts..the more power, the more damage during a missed shift...

I see axles go before the tranny. But, it all depends on how you will be driving it. And considering you will be beating it up and drag racing with it, make sure to have plenty of spare trannies.

I'll replace the stock axles....

Is it possible to get a aftermarket tranny of some sort? Better than OEM.

Aj Racing offers spoon rebuilt b series trannys that are supposedly stronger and better. I dont remebers the specifics but i know they have an option for a stronger Type R tranny.

That's not true. Spoon trannies are basically 98 spec R trannies. They are also discontinued.

You could always go with a Quaife 6 speed dogbox @ $12g usd.
Or just cross your fingers everytime you give it gas.

550hp blown B18 + abuse = $$$$$$$$

I would imagine the tranny is ONE of the many things that are going to break on you. Even if it doesn't break - it's not going to last long.

I don't think I've ever seen more than a 400 hp ITR.

The gearing is going to be way too short for that kind of power anyways.

You should probably get a custom straight-cut gear set.

Have fun.</TD></TR></TABLE>

This will of course be a built engine. The car will also get DSS axles stage 3, Quaife ATB LSD and Exedy hyper single clutch. Shouldn't brake down too soon..... except for the gearbox....

So what do all the 400whp R's that I'm reading about all the time do with the gearbox? Just drive around like old granny's and never track or drag the car?

Unless you switch out the final drive or top gear to something lower - you're going to top out at about 145 mph (230 km/h)

With boost like that - and the short gears of the R - which are optimized for the low torque NA motor - you are going to be shifting like a madman.

Even with a Quaife - you are going to roast the front tires.

Having an awesome track car is all about balance - not absolute power.

gearbox issue = have plenty of tranny casings and replace them after a few events.

the power/stress will push/crack the case open.

try the drag forum.. they will have a better idea of what a case will take.

the worst place to ask is in this forum. no one in here knows enuff about pwoer to handle this topic.

watch out for 3rd and 5th synchros.they keep going on me.
other than that they hold up pretty well. the LSD might get iffy , id get a quaiffe.

yes the tranny will take the abuse, but there is only soo much you can expect it to do before taking a ****. just be prepared just in case, ive seen weird **** happen.

as far as the gearing you will need 26inch slicks i can tel you that for traction , but that will give you more MPH. the gears go very quick with this gear box, but its all about acceleration

any other Q's let me know or ask in FI or Drag cuz you wont get much help here with big HP or turbo questions
