Muffler fell off, but seems more peppy, what about straight exhaust?
Ok, well i cut my muffler off to put a muffler on, thought that was gay and put my stock back on, obviously not good enough. It fell off, and I was wondering if anyone has just a cat, 1 or 2 resonators and no muffler and gained or lost any power? I was even thinking about making it so the pipe comes out of the drivers or passengers door jam.... anyone?

like in a viper?

How the hell does the entire exhuast just fall off?
Maybe you should just take the entire exhaust manifold off and run straight out of the cylinder.

did you not hear the word MUFFLER? Thats all that fell off i was just wondering if headers, then a free flow cat, 1 or 2 resonators and no muffler would be too loud?
it would be deep, and you would definetly gain horsepower, but the choice is up to you whether or not you can stand the obnoxious sound all the time. There is a vr6 corrado where i live with a side exit exhaust right before the rear fender and it just sounds like a really loud exhaust.

Don't clown on the guy, he makes more sense that you are making. Since when does a muffler affect emissions, genius? He specifically mentioned that he was planning on keeping his cat.

hahaha, 0WN3D..
but even at that with the muffler off, if it made a difference, you could always just clamp the oem one right back up, or an aftermarket one.. and ur set..
does a muffler have any part to do in the apperance/visual part of the test?

I'm pretty sure it does. Most smog guys are dicks anyway, so they won't let you have a loud *** car in their bay, and sure as hell wont climb under the car to put the sniffer in there.
I know in california anyhow, that the muffler has to be behind the rear wheels.
And if you just clamp one back on there and it's not sealed, your o2 levels might be too high to pass.

He will be able to pass emissions testing. But one second on the street will get him a citation for not having a muffler. In California and Texas at least, you will get pulled over for excessive noise and get a warning or citation.
If you're gonna run muffler-less, make sure all your tags and papers are up to date.

Doesn't the SRT-4 come from the factory without mufflers? I could be mistaken.
Anyway, to pass a possible visual inspection, just locate one of the resonators far enough down the line towards the back of the car, I'm sure that could pass as a muffler.

you are correct, the SRT-4 has just a cat, and one big resonator then it splits into a Y pipe right past the gas tank and just goes to 2 tips... Well i just realized i still have an Apex'I N1 muffler in my garage, im going to sell my teg and buy a 92 hatch. Is the N1 with an inlet of 2 1/4 inches and 4 inch tip free flowing enough to not cause crazy back pressure on a d16 running 8 pounds?
