It is a possibility that cold air in takes do save gas because your freeing up the air from that stock restrictive box that makes the car suck harder. Also anytime you add performance parts your car performs better runs faster there for uses more gas so the exhaust things whole purpose technically is to waste gas burnt gas that is hehe!

both should save gas, if you drive normally, because they both free up restrictions that otherwise would cause the engine to work 'harder' (ever so slightly).

Maybe you drive faster with the exhaust than without?

air intakes systems let more air flow in than what the car is originally programed for and a less restrictive, higher flowing exhaust definitely lets out more exhaust (unless you just hacked off the muffler). When you have twice as much air going in and twice as much exhaust flowing out, you will need twice as much fuel and spark to compensate for the new, less restrictive set-up.

so the answer is false for the first question and true for the second. The only way to save gas with the air intake system is to install a K 'n' N drop in filter.
