Default Intake for 6th gen. 4cyl Accord ... extra component?

I just purchased a new intake for my Accord to replace my short ram just for the hell of it. However, after we installed the main pipe, we realized there was still a shorter length of pipe left. The combined efforts of a computer technician, graphic designer, and veteran mechanic resulted in "we have no idea how this fits in, let's leave it out!" Even without the piece there, it sounds great and feels good, but I really don't know where to install it. I was hoping someone who's done this many times before would. Here are some pictures...

This first shot is the installed new intake as best we could figure. We're pretty sure we got it right since it lines up perfectly within the engine:

This second shot is of the second piece next to the main pipe. Where the heck would this go? There is not much room in front of the air filter as it is:

This third picture is a close up of the mystery pipe:

If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I also posted this over in the Accord forum.

Well, having owned an Accord for 3 months an Accord, and only dealt with short ram intakes, yeah. But we've got it figured out. Gotta remove the fender lining and get the stock resonator out of there. This is a helpful forum...

I know it's a cold air intake. I've just never installed one on an Accord before. It was purchased from a friend at a local honda shop that manufactures aftermarket parts. Since all short ram intakes in 6th gen Accords don't require the removal of the stock resonator, I didn't think this did too. Obviously, I was wrong. Although I do love the sounds this thing generates. And no, no instructions and it was late so the shop was closed when we installed it last night. I've got it cleared up now.
