lightweight but awsome rollcages?
Provided you are talking about a road race car, there's really not any weight advantage to speak of unless you are leaving out bars, which you may or may not personally find necessary. As for price, you really should be looking in your local area as the only "awesome" cage will be made specifically for your car, not shipped to you in bubble wrap.
i thought chromoly(sp) was lighter then DOM??
if thats false then there is no weight saveing cages.
a cage is a nessacary weight along with the motor the body and the driver.

I dunno - some driver's are hefting around more necessary weight than others.

Nope!
It not lighter, but it is stronger. Therefore, you can use a thinner stock with Chromoly. That makes it lighter. .095 wall is much lighter than .120 wall!

Nope. Just make sure you get DOM steel, and not the ERW!
What is this cage for?

145lbs, I raced autox with a loaner helemt and found that because of my height the little viser thing on some helmets will catch, and I have to have the roof open anyway becuause I sit about level with it with the helmet.
What about an Al cage? I should be lighter and stronger than steel.

You'll want to check your class rules on this prior to building the cage.

Nope. You're probably thinking of Ti.
Al lighter than steel? Yes.
Al stronger than steel? Hell no.
You could probably crush .095" thin wall Al with your teeth, though I wouldn't try it.
Maybe some exotic race cars have Ti cages, but none are Al.

what are the opinions on chromo cages these days anyway? I remember hearing that they were too rigid for such application and could potentially crack at the welds, but I don't know if that came from a reliable source

Chromo is just not the best idea in this application. If you were building an NHRA tube chassis, it would be great. But in this type of application, you are better off with DOM.
To do it right, you need to tig weld all welds with chromo. Not to mention the cost over DOM!

i just purchased and installed a TRUE RACE 4 point roll bar recently, this is not normally how they come. but they were kinda enough to set mine up for a weld in aplication. contact joestypes on here for more info, and this 4 point is legal for NASA.

That's generally the purpose of a rollcage. Just an FYI.
