Okay i currently run nitrous and was wondering how the LS rods fit in the d16, do i need to notch the block or anything? Also what hp can those rods handle, i plan on boosting my car and want a little more assurance that they will not break, looking to get around 220whp, will they hold. I also have ordered new arias pistons wit 9.1:1 compression, i would think that would be a good bottom end build???
Thanks in advance

They aernt going to drop right in. By the time you've modded them to fit you could have just as easily gotten some aftermarket rods for your motor and been better off with less hassle and headaches.

ic its just i can get them for 20 bucks as opposed to 300 eagle h-beams, i am not going to run that large amout of boost, but i guess it would be easier to just put aftermarket ones in
, are there any other oem rods that will drop into the d16 that are stronger???

The amount the money you are going to spend at the machine shop trying to modify them, you might as well get aftermarket ones.

Several questions about the rods.
1.) Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in length between z6/y7 rods and LS rods. I haven't been able to get my hands on any to measure a distance.
2.) Can anyone tell me what EXACTLY would need to be modified to have these rods fit into A6 pistons. I mean exact, down to the ten thousandths of an inch (SolidEdge draft files would be prime)

I say just find a good shot thats not going to rip you off. Its only a small amount of material they need to take off to make them work.
I would get them shot peened while you are at it.
IMO it would be well worth it.

I am the shop. I just want someone who has done the process before to lend some info, so I don't **** up some perfectly good pistons.

I remember seeing a step-by-step for this on Turbod16.com.
Wish i could tell you more, but thats a good place to look.
i wish i had my own machine shop

Tried searching over there, their search engine isn't as finely tuned as one would hope for.
Thanks though.
Yeah, having the availablity of a any machine you could want is nice, we don't have much in the way of tooling though. Enough to suit my needs though, and the needs for the race kah.

Um, yes it will, it just takes a little machining to get them to fit.

D16
Bottom end width is .892" and the pin diameter is 19mm (.784")
B18
Bottom end width is .935" and the pin diameter is 21mm (.826")
So .0125" needs to be milled off each side of the bottom and the top end needs to be re-bushed to 19mm.

hmmmm.....(clearing throat) actually guys they do fit d series engines just not the 1.6. they fit the dx and other 1.5s because of the length of the ls rods.
for the dude with the original question....the most I've ever heard of stock ls rods handling is 14psi. BUT again that was HEARD of not seen. just get some after market rods and that will beef up the bottom end.

ignorant
Save up for h-beams. Stock ls rods no fun. If rod velocity gets too high from high revs, it'd break anyway. Just use stock rods for now (they'll hold 220 hp).
Sure rods are only 30 bucks, unles syou have your own machine shops.. ehh, you'll be paying more then you want.
Ditto what Ricey said.
