Thinkin About an RSX
hey
I think in a few months im gonna buy myself a new car. Looking at virtually every comperable model....ive decided on the rsx type s. It seems to be the best built, and the best bang for the buck. I plan to get the Type S, so mostly everything is included I'd need. What should I pay for one that has a few extra accessories?
Would anyone care to share any problems, good things, or little tidbits about the car?
Thanks.

sorry but the car is 240. it's only 200

The car is great.
The tranny is closely gated, so many people have misshifted and that's why so many k20a2 heads are sold, because their block has a massive hole in it. Wouldn't pay more than 24000-24500 depending on the accessories that it comes with, because many have gotten the S for 23xxx OTD.
Good things: K-series, threelobed cam design (VTEC feel), very friendly to basic bolt ons.

Problems I am experiencing are (at 19k miles)...
1. Third gear notchiness
2. Cracking leather seat on side bolster
Good things are...
1. Love the dash lighting
2. Somewhat fast

There was a couple posts a while back of people saying how they misshifted their RSX. take a look at this from the clubrsx site http://rsx.clubrsx.com/videos/RSX-S_misshift.mpeg
Overall good car, althought the tranny situation is a concern. At work we do tranny recalls on MDX's all day and we've now learnt that all the new '04 TL's, and the newer model CL's have the same problem. Hopefully this doesnt stem on to the TSX and the RSX.
Overall it's good, but it's no Integra. Personally I'd take an Integra over an RSX any day.
Best option (if you've got the cash) would be to go with the Type-S. Gives you another 20 HP and a 6th gear, althought it can get pricey when you start adding on alot of options.
The biggest coplaint with these cars is the creaks, and weird noises it makes sometimes. Prime example: I was doing a PDI (kinda like an inspection before we put the car on the lot) and I noticed a pretty loud ticking noise whenever I would turn to the left. I thought about it and decided to pull out the airbox...voila, problem solved...except for the part of the car having no airbox...hehe, we joked that the person who would buy it would have to buy an intake too.
We (Acura techs) received a shop talk today about 3 pages long with all the weird noises the new models make and the reason behind those noises(usually shop talks are only 1 paragraph long...)
Good luck in your search.
Note: don't get sucked into all the extras, only get what you think you'll really need and what you think your hard earned money is worth.

why is Honda becoming less and less reliable nowadays?

I love my RSX type S. Traded in my integra in 2001 for it and I like the rsx better. However, there is a lot of road noise as is typical with small Hondas and it isn't the best for long commutes. If you have the money, invest in some dynomat to deaden noise, esp. if you upgrade stereo. After having car almost 3 years, I still get a kick out of driving it. I have not had a single problem with the car and have about 50k on it. Brakes seem like they should stop quicker to keep up with its handling and high revving engine. My opinion.
TYPE S all the way...
I have been happy with mine for the last 3 months...
The TSX is a nice as ride, its like a 4 door accord with alot of power, but it is heavier and the 40 extra horse's does not make up for the diff VS the lighter 6 speed 200 HP RSX.

RSX type-S is the way to go man. Ive had mine since 02 (stock model no extras) and its the most car you could possibly get for your money. In my opinion, its a hell of a lot better than the integra. I learned how to drive on one, so naturally i was inclined to go RSX once it came out.
I did however have that 3rd gear "notchiness" someone else here described. I had a problem once when i had to leave my car in a parking lot and it got burried by a a blizzard. Once i dug it out i had to spin out pretty hard to get out of the bog. My clutch plate apparently died and my gears slowly stopped engaging properly. Id redline almost on every gear trying to shift up. After they replaced it (under warranty which was nice) my car has never had a problem since, and ive enjoyed the quick throws and short "catch point" of the rsx's "race inspired" clutching system.
ok..sorry for the ramble..but definitely go type s, you wont regret it.
