pay more attention to the INSTALLATION and less to what alarm brand/model. Its the installation that is important, all alarms do are lock and unlock your doors and flash some lights...
just go with a reputable brand and pick the features you like and can use... and then find a place/person you can trust and that can do a REAL GOOD INSTALL.

Personally, I believe an alarm is a waste of money....UNLESS you are using it for the remote lock/unlock feature. Most, if not all, alarms are very easy to bypass.
I suggest layering of security (alarm doesn't count) with multiple kill switches and whatnot. Club, autolock, whatever.
This is just my personal opinion. The other forms of security (not alarm) are very cheap and very effective. An alarm can cost anywhere from $300-3000 and is still very easy to get past.
If you feel you must get one, as others have said, anything in the DEI line is very good. http://www.directed.com/ is the site for all their stuff. You can see that they make MANY different brands out there. Most of the stuff you have heard of is DEI.

I currently have a compustar SS and I love it. It has a great autostart system. But I also use a autolock and am planning to purchase a club and a wheel lock/boot device.
I think DEI is a great place to start. however, layering is VERY important.

well i had a dei b4 but i went to compustar because it was pager, autostart, and turbotimer was on it. Plus compustar was the first company to come out with a good pager system for car alarm so i trust them with pager alarms.
interesting product. I like the fact that it can go as far as 6000 feet (little more than 1 mile) as opposed to the DEI systems that only go 1320 ft (1/4).

I have the Clifford G4 (G5 is the current). The smart windows alone is worth it. It makes your power windows more sensitive and smoother to operate. Also, I've hooked up my laptop to it and did all of the following - real time sensor check, window vent increments, button reprogramming, & customized the alarm tones.
I used a dei pager (w/vibration), but the actual paging unit is big . The rear window defroster antenna doesn't do much, so I added a powered antenna near the dash to increase the coverage.
If your alarm is installed and setup properly with at least one backup system, it still takes some effort to beat it and most thieves by nature are too dumb or too lazy to get around it. Sure there's probably someone out there smart enough to do it, but he probably has better things to do with his skills.
Good luck on finding a good installer.

</TD></TR></TABLE> Don't matter, unless you park your car in an empty field. In real world conditions the range is going to be shortened drastically on either alarm. I would definitely choose a top of the line DEI over a compustar, anyday.
