I went to the speed trail even at willow spring...it was so fun..so many nice cars and i was the only R there...kinda embrassing cause i was in the beginner group. ...below are some photos that i took....the 2nd one was w/ a ferrari 360...

Gotta start going to track more and hopfully get good at it.

Couple Qs: Did an instructor go out with you on your first few laps? Were there any races between your runs that you had to wait to end before your next outing?
I've yet to do one of those. There's one next week but it's at Buttonwillow, a little farther north.

 

naw...didn't ahve a chance to get an instructor to sit w/ me. I think you can do that during open track. you'll get a one on one instructor. Ya, you have to wait...there were 4 groups...A, B, C, D...D for beginner. Each group gets 15 - 20 mins....

This is VERY BAD for a beginner. This is why I don't think much of the Speed Trials events.

For your first half dozen events, sign up for events with a group that puts an instructor in the passenger seat for the whole event - like BMW CCA, PCA, PDA, etc.

 

Looks like too much toe in, too much camber.

I agree, this is very bad for a beginner to NOT have an instructor.. Speedtrial USA on the east coast has one on one instruction for all beginner and intermediate groups! West Coast is very different from the East Coast..

Just to reasure everyone on the East Coast..

 

It's not the same everywhere... Speedtrial east coast events *require* instructors for beginners and intermediate drivers, just like CCA and PCA and everybody else. I agree - it's bad for a beginner to be on track without one (too easy to get into bad habits).

PS- What kind of tires are on that S2000?

who is considering flying 3000 miles to run Laguna w/Speedtrial on Dec 15-16... I *gotta* drive that track before I die...

 

No instructor?! Beginner group?! WTF! On my first event I drove w/an instructor the whole time and I learned a lot. I cannot imagine doing it w/o. Think about it - everyone comes to this board to ask questions about everything. Why? Other's experiences. We'd like to know and get a little advice to get it right when we do it. If anything, that should apply to driving school as well. It is a school, isn't it?! Why learn bad habits and leave seconds out on the track?

After a few events, if an instructor feels you are safe and probably won't wad up your car, nor anyone elses, then you get signed off and can run some solo laps. That's cool, but even then, I look around for others to ride w/me, and I'm in the B group. There's always more to learn. Plus various riders can give differrent thoughts on diff turns. Instructor #2 might teach you a trick that #1 didn't know.

Well, at least you got some seat time....but go for some instructor time as well....and get your money's worth out of them sum'bitches!

 

just imagine watching that 360 ripping it on the track!!!!....ahhhhh, what a sight

 

Slightly off-topic but... Mmmm... 360's... here's one parked next to my CRX and here are some Challenge racecars from the nearest dealer and here's a Challenge car on the scales and here's one after an "ouch" during its race... also, see my avatar... can you tell I'm obsessed with those cars?
