205/50/15: which tire best suits
hey, i am looking for new tires, b/c right now i have 185/65/15 and they are made by firestone so they are obviously crappy stock Ex tires. i am looking for great tires. summer tires, something like Falken azenis or Kumho MX. i dunno which i would want. I would like your guys' opinion on which tire you think is best for this setup. FYI i have a 91 Integra with 2004 EX rims and a H&R race drop. I am looking for good grippy tires, but not slicks or anything. pretty much a road tire. my stock wheels with hubcaps are going on it the wintertime, so i dot care for the all seasons.
TIA
Rob

I have yokohama AVS ES100 in 195-55-15. They are really good. The one thing you'll need to remember about summer tires is that most summer tires are noisy as hell
I also recommend sticking with 195/55and don't go for 205/50. I had 205/50 before and steering response was really bad.

bfgoodrich comp t/a or g-force t/a
dunlop sp's
i won't even mention michelin or continental because people around here are too cheap to get tires that will handle well on dry and wet for 45k miles.

My Kumho 712s are an ok year-round tire; nowhere near the dry grip of the Yokohama AVS Intermediates I had on there before. But the Kumhos look like they won't wear out after 30k miles like the Yokos did, and they're better in the snow. Neither one is as good in the white stuff as the original Michelins the car came with.
If you want something that gives good grip and is fairly cheap then go with Yokohamas. I have the ES 100's and they are great tires. They're a great combination between wet and dry grip and are fairly cheap.
i run the bridgestone potenza re730 (discontinued) but it is the same tire as the 750 and they are great. Ive had them for almost 3 summers of hard driving. i run about -2 camber in the front and about -1 in the rear and they dont show any crazy wear.
they grip and hold well on the road and auto cross courses and the sidewalls arent so super stuff that you cant launsh them at the strip. all in all they get my full vote of confidence
(ive had my share of other tires)

yea the bridgstones i like. i also saw some Yokohama compition tires that i also liked, but they are like $150 a tire, so no thanks on that one. I went out today and bought the falken azenis (205/50/15). I ended up paying $318 for all four tires, frieght, valve, and mount. not bad price, i just gotta wait a few days.

I've been running Yokohama AVS ES-100's for a while now. My favorite tire in the 15" size that's affordable. Sure, the azenis is affordable as well, but wears quicker than the Yokos. Also, I noticed the Azenis is not the best wet weather tire. Out in cali, it's sometimes unpredictable to tell when a few drops may fall.
Nevertheless, you made a decent choice. If I had more money, i'd grab a pair of potenza SO-3's or whatnot.

oh, one more thing. 205-50-15 is a pretty good size to go with. 205-55 will give ya a little more rubber and height.....even fills up those wheel wells a lil bit

Very true, too bad u didnt search those tires, ive been selling a set of Potenza S-03s used 4k miles, 205/50ZR15. I upgraded to a larger rim and need to sell these tires. Oh well, if u know anyone, throw em' my way.
