Default how do you make sure youre engine is clean

so you buy an engine. you dont know where its been or what its been in. now, how do you prepare it before you install it. how do you made sure there isnt all kinds of dirt and dust in the cylinders, or all kinds of gunk in the oil pan? ive also heard that you should take off the exhaust manifold and clean the exhaust valves, how do you do this? with a rag and throttlebody cleaner? Is there some kind of machine you can hook an engine to just to clean it all out before you put it in the car and start it up? thanks guys.

throttle body cleaner a bottle brush

some brake clean i like that stuff.

after installtion of the motor
pull the plugs again and make sure the engine has oil ( its best to add oil after the motor has been installed becuase of the weight)
remove the spark plugs
pour about a table spoon of Automatic transmission fluid into the spark plug holes a long funnel helps( the tranny fluid will lubricate the dry cylinder walls till the engine is in normal operation) this burns away with no problems

turn over the engine till the OIL idiot lite goes out.
Replace plugs and Start motor.
Check temp periodicly and make sure that your coolant is apropriate level.
like i said above it should smoke for few minuets nothing heavy just little white smoke.
should clear in 1-5minuets depending how generous you were with automatic transmission fluid

at any sigh of taping that is not considered normal. turn motor off and investigate

running engine with cracked valve or bent is bad.
1. the loss of compresion will cuase the 1st and 2nd piston rings to RE-Seat in that particular cylinder. there is enough matrial on the rings to do this.
when you replace the head gasket and repair the valve the ring will blow
becuase the ring is going Re-Seat under compression and there isn't any more matrial left to do that a 3rd time
not to mention that the piston skirt may start gouging out the cyclinder walls..

thats just worse cause senerio.
