what do you mean "sounds like it wants to turn off" ? Is it not idling correctly? You have to be a tad more specific that you were.

And you must be master of the obvious, eh?
Since you can't describe what's going on with it, I guess I can't offer any solutions.
Just by saying "it doesn't want to stay running" doesn't say a whole lot about it.

lol. IH82LOSE: ScreaminTeg is/was trying to help you. Please describe the problem with more detail (sounds, noises. has anythign else been changed/adjusted since before the engine had the lash adjusted??) and then Im sure people will waste no time in helping you.
if u didnt adjust them properly then either there under udjusted meaning the valve might not be opening long enough or it might be over adjusted wher a valve might not be seating at all. they gotta be seating if not u could be loosing compressin check your compression it can tell u allot...

ih82lose posted this question up for me.
i did a valve job last night and afterwards, i took the car for a drive. the car drove fine, the motor sounded nice and quiet. when i would come to a complete stop, the rpms would drop to like 700 and it would feel like the car wanted to die, then the rpms would go back up.
i'm thinking i adjusted them too tight and thats what caused that. the car was running fine before the valve adjustment. the valves just sounded loud so i figured i needed to do one.
the motor revs fine, drive fine, still pulled hard, just seemed like it wanted to die when i came to a complete stop.
so what do you think, i put them too tight?
i put the intake side at .006 and the exhuast side at .007. i redid them last night and put the intake at .007 and the exhuast and .008, but i haven't driven it to see if that made a difference. when it was at idle and i reved it, the rpms dropped and it didn't seem like the car wanted to die, so i'm hoping i fixed the problem. i will take it for a drive later.

Stoner
listen up; the duration (ammount of time) of any given valve being open is determined by the profile of the camshaft lobe.
His problem has nothing to do with valve seating or compression.
and Overtightening a valve makes the engine loud and if a valve is too loose then it will also make the sound of them opening/closing loud.
I expect that they were just slightly overtightened.

Yup, they may just be set wrong.
One thing to be careful when doing the valves is this: when you loosen the nut to adjust the valve, you must hold it w/ the screwdriver while tightening it down. If you just tighten back up the locknut, the adjusting screw will turn with the locknut, throwing off the clearances.
Go back through and double check the valves.
