Guess what UPS broght today? My ATS Final Drive!!! (Big Pics)
Well actually the ATS Final Drive arrived Wednesday, but I wasn't able to pick it up from the office until today - got home late.....
Anyway, it looks very nice. I took a lot of pics but they are taking forever to upload. I'll post links to a few here.
I bought the gear from an older guy who used to have a cw itr and sold it. He road races and had it in his itr for ~2k miles. He ended up selling the itr, but not before putting it back to stock. That left him with the ats final drive gear set and he sold it to me for $600 shipped!
to adamITR on this board for letting me know about this deal. The guy's name is John Glass in the NY area, and he runs at road courses around there. He let me post-date a check for about 30 days after to make sure I had a chance to inspect the gear and return it and issue a stop payment if I didn't like it/ want it after checking it out.
thanks John!
It looks like the collar ring has a ding in it... Is this ok? Or should I get a new one just to be safe? Also, the gears all have a line through them 1 line on the 1st gear and three lines on the final drive - I'm assuming this is normal.....
I figured this wouldn't include anything but the final drive, but it looks like it has everything I need. Take a look at the pics.
What I want to make sure is that I really have the ats 4.929 final drive, and get some assurance from you knowledgable people on this board that I don't need anything else for my install...
How many teeth should the final drive have for 4.929? How many teeth should the 1st gear have if it is the jdm itr 1st gear (same ratio as usdm itr 1st gear)?
What else should I get and replace when I do this install? Seals, bearings, etc?
Here's a couple pics (sorry for the large size):

cant see the pics.
BTW: in the last pic, you can kinda see a little ding on that ring (distance collar?)...
Will I need to replace this or will it be ok?
damn must to be nice to have a b18c5 sitting around
Separate project.

Geez Kenny, could you possibly make the pics any larger?

it doesn't look like for me that it's a ATS........
it looks like a USDM 4.4 or a Cusco 5.0

What would be indicative? Give me an idea of what to look for!
Just count the teeth and do the math.
In 1995 I actually rebuilt my 85 Si tranny in the living room of our (my wife and I) apartment. I think I pissed my neighbors below off though. I don't think I'd try that now.

Dave (SMSP),
What do you mean count the teeth? I don't know how many to look for. How many should a 4.4, 4.929, 4.785, etc have? I may be dumb here, so please humor me... Not rebuilding the motor, just waiting for the intake manifold to get here so we can do the entire swap all at once. This is for a crx, btw!
Should be kicking my *** - even after my fd install!
Miraiz,
Yes I have a garage, but it is full with my itr and other stuff. This is at my buddy's house and all he has is a carport, so this is safer. If someone drove by and saw an itr motor, it'd be gone soooo quick. At least this way, they have to come in and risk setting off the alarm and getting shot by a glock 23.
Better to be safe than sorry, y'know?

Count them on the ring and then the pinion and divide.
for me! Which set of teeth on the pinion do I need to count? (I'm in 2nd grade, btw...)

No shiet! My wifey would be pissed!

- for us married guys.
I guess you won't be doing the install.
We'll see... Anyone in Atlanta know their sheit and want to have a go at the install in a supervisory role with me?
No ring = no room to talk **** for the ladies...
Ken - congrats on getting the FD. I noticed something in your pics though, the piece on the top left corner (I think it's the "distance collar") looks different from mine. Your pic looks like my stock piece -- the JDM Honda distance collar that comes with the ATS looked to be fatter. I've got pics - need to scan then though. I just noticed the big pic of your hand -- the object in your hand is the one in question...
IM me here - I'll talk to you about the install.
Count those teeth!

Well when I rebuilt my first tranny I just had the manual at my side. If you do it yourself just be **** with the stuff being clean and especially the clearances. "It's close enough" won't get it.
But, if you want someone to do it for you in the Atlanta area you'll need to drive east a little to Conyers. Talk with Adam Malley at Pro Import 770-860-1777, he's about the best you'll find around there. Adam doesn't drag but road races and has a couple National Championships to his name.
