ok, I have to get my hatch smoged, its completely stock. so im ok w/ that but here in cali you have to put ur car on the dyno, & i was wondering if it would be better to put on the Si tranny before i smog the car or just leave the stock 4speed.
What do yall think?

Leave it stock... It doesnt matter your gearing when on the dyno...
Its not your typical hp/tq dyno...its an emissions dyno, where they chart your output. If you have a good smog guy, he'll get it to pass. Make sure they get that cat' nice and hot

Test only are a little different. They do a more extensive inspection of your vehicle to make sure it falls within compliance of epa and dot regs.
Did your number come up for test only? Its usually a random make/model/year that they run for test only that year...no worries though, you should do fine.

Domestic Speed shops sell methanol, I ran it to almost empty then added a few gallons and drove to emissions, my emission test was so low they didn't even bother putting it on the dyno, they did the idle test and passed me. I'm not sure how safe denatured alcohol is, but I mixed a quart to 1/4 tank, and passed clean another time, but not as clean as I did with the methanol. Not sure if this stuff is Cat converter safe, i was desperate at the moment.
Methanol / Alky burns much cleaner than gasoline, why it is good to use for emissions

Yea, I dont think your cat will last long using methanol/alcohol. The components that make up a cat are manufactured to work with unleaded petrol (gasoline) not methanol/alcohol. So when it tries to catalyze, it will probably break down and melt or some ****.
90DX, does your car have a hard time passing as it is right now? You seem worried about it, even though your car sounds stock.

my car is stock, but it failed anyways,
but there saying that my "Nocs" are too high, & its from: timing, EGR, or bad cat. so... The timing is good as far as i know there are no EGRs on my car & so its gotta be the cat, but there goes $52 down the drain,
well anyone know where i can get a "bolt on" cat for a REALLY good price?

I was gonna ask you guys abou this, I looked at the ones on Ebay but they didnt look like they would do a "good" job, so i didnt want to waste the $$ but if you say they work good & are worth it then i guess thats my best bet.

If it costs only $40 then thats probably just a test pipe shaped like a cat...I see those on ebay all the time. If you want a real cat that will pass smog try a "Carsound." http://www.kteller.com/store/p...d/219
