Default How to remove factory radio from 97 Sedan?

I just picked up a pristine 97 EX Sedan with only 39K miles. First thing I want to do is start putting my radio stuff in there. I've already replaced the factory tweeters, now I just need to figure out how to remove the factory radio.

Also, the previous owner had a Honda factory CD player installed. Will this be a different wiring harness for the stereo, or was the CD player most likely just wired into the existing harness?

Thanks for any help

The factory seperate CD player i believe is wired right into the back of radio, so i dont think you will come across anything different with that...

as far as taking out the stereo, if you want to put in stuff and are planning on taking some time, well, you will have to start with the center console/armrest and remove that first, then work your way up...its really not too hard, just be careful because all that **** is plastic...

yea its not too hard i did it 3 days ago myself i needed my serial number on the botem on the stereo so i had to take it out ... like robo said ... first you open your armrest.. on the bottem there is a lil panel that opens .. unscrew them both then in then.. pull out the cup holder theres i think 3 screws down there and that should be it for the center.. once your done with that you unscrew the two small screws at teh end of the shifter.. then you want to unscreww your shiftknob then take out your ash tray and unscreww the smalll screw in the back and finally pull off the plastic center console... if you have a manual tranny i found it easyer to put it in 3rd gear when pulling it off... after you have the plastic off under the sterio system is your ob2 sensor and above it you see two shiny silver screws unscrew those and you free... i would recomend you becareful doing this when working inder the plastic and try not to bang around too much you airbags might go off and ..well yea

I will be interested in the factory cd player if you want to sell or trade for it.

And for the Cd player, I'mm hold on to it since I won't have this car indefinitely.

Yup, there should be a screw or two inside the handle you use to close the door, one behind the door handle, one behind a plastic cover towards the front of the door...take them all out and then unscrew the lock that sticks up...after that the panel should just pop off, but be careful or you will break the clips.

This is a given, but when you take the screws out of the closing handle, you need to pull out that whole deal with the window controls on it, and disconnect the wiring to it.

last question

I hope
heh

Aight, I've got the armest, and plastic piece around the radio off.

The radio is just sitting there.

I undid a screw on the bottom of some bracket that's attached the radio. It's loose, and feels like it should come out, but won't.

what am I not doing here?

alright so all that is off the screw you undid i believe is under the radio....what you need to do is unscrew the two which are located above the radio not under......they will be directly above them about at the center.....

cheers

I only saw to screws going into the tan trim piece (not the black bezel around the radio) above the radio. I'll look again however.

Bump =/

I see two screws above a single screw and what looks like a socket thing (for a computer/diagnostics thing) to hook up to, and two screws on the tan bezel that are above the radio, on the outsides.. not in the middle. =/

New radio in, and amp and my 2 10s are set up.

Thanks for the help everyone who posted.
