Balance shaft timing on 2000 Accord F23A1
Okay, my sister blew her oil pump, so I'm putting a new one in for her. The biggest problem I have run into is the proper timing for the balance shaft on the back/aft/firewall side of the engine. Now, I know how to time it when the pulley/gear housing is on it, but after you pull that housing off, you expose the gears under that. The problem is, there are no timing marks on the gears so that it goes back together properly. I would hope that Honda would design it such that the housing would go back on with the balance shaft lying where gravity would have it, but that would be assuming. I already got screwed assuming that there would be timing marks under the housing to help me put it back together. If anyone has done an oil pump or a balance shaft swap on one of these, please hit me up with some insight into this problem.
I realize that this would best be answered by me buying a manual, but it's her car and I keep harping on her to buy that so that she can start learning about it. I now know what she's getting for her birthday, but that isn't for a few weeks, and this just popped up as an emergency. At least she had the presence of mind to shut the damn thing off when the oil light came. That means she learned something from talking to me.

on the back of the block near the balance shaft , there is a 12mm bolt (head). this is removed so you can place a long 6mm bolt(shank diameter) inside to hold the balance shaft in its correct location. after the belt is in place remove the 6mm bolt and put the 12mm back inplace rotate the engine annd check all of your marks.
