Aftermarket Camshaft/Gear?
I was thinking of putting a new cam in a 1.6 si motor.
Are there other changes that have to be made to do this or is it a drop and go project? i.e. do other parts need replaced/upgraded as well?
also what kind of gains come from just a cam gear replacement?
Thanx 4 any thoughts
Chris

here is the list of cams...

depending on what cam you get, it will just be a drop in. if you get something with huge amounts of lift, or you are gonna rev the pis out of it then you may need upgraded valvetrain. exospeed sells the isky products.
just a cam gear wont do much for you...you can gain up top and lose down low, or lose up top and gain down low. but without dyno tuning, or 1/4 mile runs you wont be able to set it right were it needs to be.

i would go with a "stage 1" cam...especially if the engine isnt very modified. without bumping up the compression a wild cam will most likely help you lose power.
what is your setup and what are your plans for the engine?
prices range from $80 w/core, up to $330...plus shipping of course.

if you are only getting a stage 1 cam, dont even bother. you *might* gain 5hp if you're lucky.
although its true that larger cams like high compression, there is power to be had with stock compression and bigger lift & longer duration aftermarket cams, although more power will be realized with higher compression.
