Default B16 backfiring and misfiring please help!

B16 obd0 PW0 in 91 crx
for the past few months, when i start the car(cold) it runs really rough for 5-10 seconds, almost like one cylinder is misfiring; then it goes away and runs like a champ. 4 days ago i went to start it and it runs rough all the time now. it backfires and pops a lot especially when cold and less when warm.
i have checked: spark plugs, dist cap/rotor, wires, iacv, and timing seems to be great (timing light).
i am 90% sure it is ignition maybe it is the coil, igniter, or cyl position sensor?
also would O2 sensors do this?
anyone!!!!?????
do these symptoms sound like anyone else's problems ? please point me in the right direction???

running a cat or no? My 89 b16 does that at idle, and when its hot, it just does it sometimes. Runs strong though, so no biggie to me. No cat, and a free flow muff means less back pressure, so when you first start the car it dumps alot of fuel until it is warmed up, once its warmed up the misfire sound usually goes down.

yes ur o2 sensor will affect tis because if its not working then its open loop. meaning your ecu is using other signal to determine ur air/fuel ratio instead of o2 and tat makes ur engine runz very rought. double check ur o2 sensor...tat might just be the problem..

i swapped the coil and it is still backfiring until it warms up, then it misfires occasionally. ???? help

if you look closely you can see that the insulation boot is torn on white/blue wire on ignitor, but i have taped that up.

I have the exact same problem to the tee !

I have a strong feeling it is an o2 Sensor, cuz my car failed emissions.

Try switching the dizzy module.
I had the same problems. Even re-wired my entire dizzy. Still had spark and timing problems.
I swapped dizzy's....and problems solved.
I'm pretty sure it was the module.

I'm having the same problem on my Civic (B16).

I took the car to a friend (knows his stuff) and he couldn't find anything. Ignition is all new (MSD). O2 seemed fine.

I have ordered an Apex VAFC to see if this will help. If not, I don't have any idea.

it was not hit by the piston at all, just a bad angle for the pic.
