whats the difference between YS1 and S1 transmissions?
The title says it. I noticed my brothers 91' 4door has an S1 and My 92' 2door has a YS1. Everyone on here says the 90-93 Integras 2 and 4door both have the same transmission. Explain this ****?
there are basically 2 type of cable transmissions short geared and long gears
theres the b16 y1/ s1/ j1 b16 close geared transmission these are JDM only
the s1 and j1 have the 4.40 final drive and have the same gearing as the itr trannie
the y1 is also a b16 trannie but this is from a jdm crx sir and but this trannie has longer gears then the s1 and j1 and does not have the 4.40 final drive so this trannie will be a hair below 4k rpm instead or a hair above 4k rpm on 5th gear going 80mph
the y1/j1/s1 are all small spline trannie that use the 90-91 clutch disk
the ys1 can be both long geared and short geared so theres really no way to tell this if this tranny is long or short geared just by looking. so that sucks and lots of people get jacked when they buy this tranny cuz they are told that its a short geared trannie
this trannie is found in all usdm 2nd gen tegs and jdm xsi integras. the ones in ls motors are long geared and the onles found on 2nd gen b17 gsr motors are shor gears. same goes for jdm but jdm had the option of having lsd with thiese trannies so if you can see straight through the axel hole then its a short geared lsd trannie.
its really to hard to find a cable with lsd so i would just settle with a s1 or j1 trannie. dont get the long geared ys1 or the b16 y1 with is what i have. i just to have a s1 and the y1 gears are a tad bit bigger

so the S1 is shorter than the YS1? My brothers tranny is stock and so is mine I just didn't know whether there was a difference or not.
