Default Did I get a good deal?

I've been into camaros for the past ten years then i went halves on a 500$ 89 crx the other day and decided i wanted to build it up. So far for what I know about hondas is turbos = very fast. My buddy suggested a b16a head with a b18b block would be the best combo. After spending about 6 hours on the net looking around i found a distributor here in augusta GA. It's a jdm b16a1. Are jdms better? anywaze i got it with mounts linkage and axles and ecu.... (everything i need + no shipping charges) for 1800$. The guys at Augusta Customs are going to install it for 500$. I didn't want to mess with doing it myself cuz of the wiring and also since ive never messed with them before, from here on i will do it though. I also just got a mugen flared style body kit for 560 shipped and plan to have the body prepped and possibly painted while i have the shortblock built then ill build the head i have and get a turbo and everything. im looking for suggestions PLEASE... what kind of turbo? good places to get parts and crap, any helpfull info is appreciated. Thanx

Well if you are gonna do what your buddie said to, and that is to use a B16A head on a B18B block that would be a LSVTEC. Before we dive to far into details into that engine, I dont believe that would be the number one choice for Turboing, maybe just stick with a stock Integra LS engine for that duty.

i hope you do know if you bore your b18 block to 87 mm you make you cylinder walls thinner and weaker in a open deck, the use of NOS and force induction is not recommended for bores greater than 85 mm... HTH

dude. the only reason youre not getting a response is becasue there are 5 of these posts a day.

"whats gonna happen if i turbo my b series?" or "if i do this to my car whats gonna happen?"

ok heres the deal (although you coulda searched and found the same thing).

b16=higher compression, lacking torque but great top end (vtec), solid n/a motor.

b18a/b=lower compression, good torque, lacking a bit on the top end, strong turbo motor.

b18c=higher compression than the b18a/b, more torque than a b16(cuz its a 1.8) and still has great top end (cuz this is also a vtec motor), solid n/a or turbo motor when built correctly.

theres also the b20s and h22s but if you dont know the basics of hondas i wouldnt go ******* with a b20/vtec or the ridiculous amount of fab. work needed to mount an h22.

good luck. and honestly it may sound like a lazy answer but use the search option. you'll find EVERYTHING you need there.

oh and as for the turbo setup. you looking for lotsa power or a little? i mean you kinda need a goal before we can decide what setup you should use. t3t4 is a solid turbo and you'll rip with like 7psi. http://www.homemadeturbo.com is a really good website. you can find how to build yourself a turbo setup for as little money as possible.

if you wanna spend some cash id recommend the gt28r (disco potatoe). this thing has barely any lag and you hit full boost at crazy-low rpm's. its also like 1500 for the turbo alone...

Well, you're already swapped, which will make it a pretty quick car with just that. Now, bolt on a turbo, even with low boost, and your car will be pretty damn quick. You will retain the reliability of the stock engine (aside from the turbo) and with a GReddy kit or something, it should be trouble free with tuning. Good luck.

Right i see you'r on a good start man keep it rolling, here is a few thing's you should know into Blowing Honda.

So you can build a motor like your friend 's told ya.
one great engine for turbo plan's is the B18a. it was around for long time, has seen plenty of wicked project, plus it's one " low " compression engine from HOnda wich mean that it can hold a great amount of boost.

low torque that what most civic / teggy /rex around here lack... Nitrous will get you out the hole faster and will help nicely in the 1320 for the money it cost...

For turbo, I strongly suggest you float around here inthe forced induction part's of the site, we got several member pumping over 500 Whp on pump gas here, so your basic turbo need's will be no problem here.

basic build up for a B Honda:
Sleeve if your goal's are serious ( over 400 Whp )( AEBS, Benson, Lot's of them )
rod's ( pewter, carillo, Crower, Eagle... depend on your budget )
Pistons ( forged is a good suggestion, JE, wiseco, arias... budget is an aspect here )
Stock cranck shaft is good, you'll need, some new bearing ACL are the best after market around stick with OEM is your best bet though...
You want a Cometic Head gasket for shure,
the head build up will depend on what plan you choose, ( To Vtec or not to Vtec... )
prepare to shell out some green here... ( mostly 1.5 to 2 grand on a good race heat )
Valves spring's, Ti retainer, P&P, Cam's, SS valves, probably oversized with 5 angles job's... )

and so on
that why nobady was answering to your question man, ,this is fu**in long to wrote down, you should probably prepare yourself to long's hour's of search and stuff if you want it built right.
wich ever route you choose man, Honda-tech.com is probably the best ressource you'll ever find about Honda.

Next time be more specific in your question.

It is JDM, it has b16a stamped on the block and i saw the chopped up right hand drive car it came out of. I think it was a 91 but it was a crx sir2.

anyways i think i'm going with this kit

http://full-race.com/store/pro...d=196

and these pistons and rods

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW

i still need sleeves and a few other things tho. i cant find a good machine shop around here either. thanks for the help cranked

Well if you want my honest opinion i would say to stick with just the b16 and not the LSVtec. Im not really a b16 fan but it will without a doubt be alot more reliable than the LSVtec. You should get in touch with earl on this board...send him your block for some benson sleeves(best sleeves for the street bar none because they retain a full open deck). As for the turbo kit...i would do a custom setup. Thats what i did and i dont regret it at all. You can customize it to your exact needs...for example you could get a smaller bb turbo like that gt28r that will spool up very fast and give you awesome throttle response. But in turn youll sacrafice alot of high end. Or you could get a huge turbo like a t3/t66 or something that will be laggy as hell...but once it gets spooled it feels like the car is just going to lift off the ground and take off. By doing a custom kit youll be able to control these things. The most important thing i can tell you is to have a good bit of money set aside for things ******* up...and have alot of beers at hand for when things just arent going right. Oh yea...and try to have fun doing it.

PS-feel free to PM me if you have any questions about your turbo situation.

Sean
