Is the A6 the stock motor for your car?

If it is then you have a good chance of passing if your tailpipe test do well AND if the smog tech doesn't know his Honda's that well.

The d16a6 is a stock Si motor. (CRX and Civic)

You say you have an 89 civic Si, so that is the stock block.

Theres a chance you will pass if the smog guy doesnt know how the head is supposed to look. Do the d16y8's have VTEC printed on the valve cover? It would attract less attention if it didnt. I know some of the d16z6 covers (92-93) didnt say VTEC on them. I'm not sure if these would fit or not but if they do, that's what I would get to keep it a little more "stock" looking.

Other than that, as long as you dont have some crazy chrome header/intake, it should still look pretty stock regardless of the headswap.

Is your car an Si? I'm guessing so, but it's not very clear.

If it is an Si then you should have a good chance of passing smog like Mr_CRX said.

It's not so much the head that would not let you pass. It's the intake manifold I would be worried about. It's completely different on the NON-Si models.
