Default turbo build decision....buy new block or sleeve current block

should I sleeve my current block d16a6/z6. the current block is either warped or it has cracked sleeves. The engine is built with forged internals and is at a 12:1 cr. I found sleeves for $300 plus it would be $100 for a grand total of $400.

or

buy a zc block for $50 + $150 shipping. I could use the pistons and rods which were made for this engine and yeild a 9:1 cr.

I would be using a t25 w/450cc's a fmic and zdyne management. remember I'm on a budget, err......i don't have a job.

Well I have read that the weak part of the d-series are the rods, and with just rods and pistons you can make some really nice power (well over 200 at the wheels). Also with a re-sleeving wouldn't you still be at very high compression? Seems like buying a new block sets you up perfectly for a turbo and for cheaper.

shouldn't resleeving the block eliminate hairline cracks? I'll have forged internals (pistons and rods) with either setup.

any other advice.....i'd really like to put that zc back in.

sleeves are the actual cylinder that the pistons move in. our honda engine sleeves are fairly week. If the turbo motor sees any predetonation (explosion before the pistons reaches the top) the stock sleeves will crack due to high forces on the walls as opposed to the crank. resleeving with performance sleeves allows for higher boost levels and the probability to resist poor tuning.

http://www.exospeed.com sells d-series sleeves for $290 and any machine shop will be able to install them fairly cheaply.

good luck

That T25 will never ever push enough boost for you to need sleeves.

20 psi in a Honda = sleeves.

Daily driver with more than 10 psi (or about 200 hp)= aftermarket rods.

Yes but i plan on getting a bigger turbo down the road.

I was thinking about resleeving if I were to run 10-15psi (about the limits of the t25) on a motor with 12:1 cr

you might as well get done what you want now, instead of waiting down the road and blow a motor and have to take it back out
