I had an old 87 CRX Si that was my toy for a while and I just removed the air box and tube and all and just used rubber bands to hold a paper filter to the top of what was originally the air box. It removed the air box restriction and sounded just like an aftermarket intake.

don't use PVC, i read on here that the heat from the engine bay will start to melt it then cause the checmicals to leak into your intake manifold....i was just thinking about cutting up the stock air box and putting on a cone filter ($12 at autozone)

you can use the right size dryer hose. It is the metal flexible hose **** you get from home depot. That and a cone filter and some hose clamps should do you good. 20-25 bucks later you got an intake.

http://www.jcwhitney.com

Buy a 180degree mandrel bent piece for 19.30
Buy a filter and 2 silicon connectors and 4 clamps

I had a link. With that one pipe you can easily make your intake go deep into your bumper. Ir you can make a short ram form some spare exhaust piping and add a filter

I did a PVC one for my first crx, was fine, didnt melt, just route it away form the motor and my battery was in the back anyways.

Was like 26 bucks for that one. About 50 for the metal one I made

If you just want any type of a cone filter, just go to autozone and look in their airfilter selection and find one, i got mine for $14 and then just get your pipe

so i also made my own intake pipe from the stock airbox to the throttle body. basically i used tin duct elbows to bend the same stock path. my thinking is that the stock air box nipple is already 3". so i basically extended it to the throttle body, where as the stock pipe reduces the cross sectional area, for whatever reason. i actually got this idea from an engine builder friend i talked with and he actually did a a test with his flow bench, and he said this setup flows better than a typical smooth 3" intake pipe into the individual runners due to the turbulent mix of air while the 3" intake is more of a cannon of air or something to that effect. i trust his testing and opinion. plus, now i dont have to plug an extra hole from the valve cover breather with my catch can now installed. working with the flimsy ducting was kinda annoying since it easily comes apart. i ended up using 2 of em plus an extra section from a 3rd to get all my bends in shape. once i wrapped it in duct tape, its rather sturdy. i hope the duct tape can withstand the heat abuse, if not ill have to rewrap in some better tape. it was like $15 of materials including a full roll of duct tape anyway.

forgot to add that i do have a K&N drop in filter in the airbox, which ive been using for a quite a while. i think the surface area is quite adequate, i dont need a cone filter, although it is due for a cleaning.

oh yeah, and with that intake and catch can installed. i got an extra 3-4 mpg from a very consistent 30mpg. dont believe me if you dont want to.

hey vmm
i took some 3 in plastic piping from a construction site and made a short ram, added a filter, it dropped my 1/4 mile about 2 tenths of a second, and backfires in between shifts. try that route, it was free with the exception of the filter, ill email u with pics when i get some,

So far I've given away an iceman and a Tenzo intake.
Intakes are cheap... and pretty much useless on a stock motor. 5 hp max.
