Default Speaking of seats....(Racespex)

Heya !

I just got home from a track day. I must say that I am pretty pleased with the car handling and performance. The only thing that I hate is that I hurted my back in a slighty unwanted slide. 5th gen civic seats lombar support sucks bad. W/o power steering, i sometime find myself holding the steering wheel a lot. I am 6 foot tall, and I can sadly not put the seat near enough of the steering w/o my helmet hitting the roof.

Anyway, to make a long story short, i'd like to know if any of you had issues with this seats : (www.racespex.co.uk)

"Fixed Back Hayate [high-ah-tay]

The Hayate is a revolutionary racing seat ideal for competition use or for the street enthusiast looking for a genuine race look and feel. This bucket seat, designed by Racespex is your top of the line solution to an absolute pursuit of ergonomics and performance driving while offering you the best comfort and control imaginable thanks to its internal support system. the system was intended to protect your seats from being worn out from cumulative use. The Hayate not only features the advantage of rigidity and light-weight with its fiberglass frame, but also guarantees comfort with the vibration-absorbing sponge used in the making of this seat. This sponge has the asset of remembering the original mass' weight and sustaining it. Racespex has combined only the best assets to provide you with the culminating technology of non-adjustable racing seats: The Hayate."

Not that it inspires me a LOT of confidence, but I can get a very good deal for it.

I do not know yet if its homologated, if not, i'll just not get it. As simple as this.

I am not trying to go cheap on seat choice, but i cannot afford much. Some people recommend me Sparco Sprint/Sport, but I am scared to get one and have the "momo t-2000" nightmare again (owned one, and hated it soooooo bad)

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Pat, who's back hurt a -lot-

That's the question I was wondering about. But that answer the guy gave doesn't make sense, because FIA certification IS for Off road racing. It just happens that they are also safe in the streets.

If you don't want to buy a Speed/Sprint, I would suggest looking at the classifieds and even ebay for used ones. User JeffS recently was selling 2 used Sparco Evo2 seats in good shape. I could be wrong but I don't recall it saying that he wants to sell in pairs only.

i have the sparco sprint/speed, forgot which one but it will not help back matters. I use a foam pillow to support my back with everyday driving and even then i can only drive for 2 hours at most before i start feeling it. without foam support maybe 30 minutes tops.

I've seen cheap seats like that in person and I would never sport them. They are cheap for a reason. One of the big things that caught my attention is that the back is very very thin in some places. I'll take my stock Integra seats over them without a second thought.

Thanks for the replies.

I would only race them. Daily drive would be on the 92-95 Si seats I have.

Hi,

Found this forum on Google, had to reply to comments made.

I have a set of Racespex Hayate. I found the quality to be better than the more, how shall I say it, well known brands!! The fibreglass frames are strong and take all kinds of abuse, as for the comfort value, they certainly have more padding than the others I looked at. They were real value for money.
In my opinion they are lighter, stronger and more comfortable than their expensive competitors.

I have then in my car which I use on track days and also travel to work with daily, no back problems here!!

Ally

You are entitled to your opinion...but you are wrong!!

just cause its not FIA approved doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't race with it.

i have a buddy club seat, and it is not FIA approved, you just have to buy a seat back brace and install it but if you don't have a roll bar then just throw this idea out the fuckn window.

now you may ask why did i go with the buddy club? well the seat is very small and fit me very good, unlike any seat i have sat in befor.

oo ya i got it from I/O port racing

One thing I don't like about the Sprint,is the fact that your butt will rub on the floor!

I'm not saying that you have a fat a**(Never saw and not planning to!)

The seat doesn't have bottom structure like say my Pro2k.

I know one guy that made the switch because he had to put towels under is Sprint.

My .02¢

I don't know about you, but when it comes to safety equipment you shouldn't be cheap. Buy the FIA homologated seats, whatever you can afford, but it will be better than any of those "show" seats. I got my MOMO Evo, and I love it, eventhough I sit almost on the floor, but I don't move at all and don't need the back support since I don't have a cage, yet. Sparco is another great brand, so is Recaro (way too expensive)
You can get a good deal on Ebay for an used seat, maybe a pair.
Good luck, and spend more money on safety equipment, is well worth it. Ask Dale Jr.

Thanks for the replies.

I actually went and tried the Sparco Sprint AND the Sparco Ultra, and i was sad to see that I am very uncomfortable in them (6 foot 170 lbs). I really tought they'd fit me like a glove.

I also went to see them racespex in person, and believe it or not, i brought one home. Some "show" friend I was with me when I bought the seat told me he'd buy it from me if I wasn't satisfied.

I am installing it today, hopefully it will go fine, since i wanted to track-test it sunday

1st impression is that the seat has nothing to envy from the sparco sprint in its making. It looks OK and the building (cushion and frame) feels strong.

True, but the SFI label on it means it has been tested to withstand impacts at certain speeds. These seats could be just as strong and safe, but no one has tested them from the reply received from the seller.

Besides, STN_Pat is looking to save money, so I would think buying the extra seat back brace doesn't help him. It may just bring the price up to a Sparco or OMP or Momo.

Everything's installed. Used custom rails bolted to the OEM sliders. Very strong and stiff. I like the seat as for now, but I want to track test it before I go any further. Hopefully i'll track it tomorow and take a few pic
