Oil Pump Oil Seal Installation?????

Oil Pump Oil Seal Installation?????
Hey guys,
Im in the process of installing a new oil seal on my oil pump but as you can see from the pictures, each side of the seal looks different. Im not sure which side goes out or in. The original oil pump didnt come with a seal so i cant just follow the old setup and the damn helms doesnt say either. Please help me out. Is it pic 1 or pic 2? TIA
