Default Tips on hard wiring a V1 radar detector

I want to hard wire my V1 up near the rearview mirror. Is there a good "hot on start" source up near the map lights or do I need to run it down the pillar to under the dash?

TIA

I have a V1 as well, nice choice by the way. I hard wired it using the crimp connecting to my battery back-up wire or constant of my head unit. Works great! Then I just ran the wire along the bottom of the dash board, up the door trim, over the the wind-shield and right out to where my V1 is, right above my rear-view mirror.

If you were going to hook it up to a constant power source like the one going to your head unit, why didn't you just tap into your map lights? Then there's no need to run the wire down. I was looking for a power source up there that's only live when the car is on. That would eliminate the need to turn on/off the radar. (http://www.bmw330ci.com/DIY_V1.htm) O well, I'll just run it down the side into the dash.

Thanks, everyone for your advice.

That's so funny I stumbled across this. I just got my V1 two days ago and will be hardwiring this weekend (probably into clock).

Back from the dead......but....

When you bought your V1 it should of come with their Direct-Wire Power Adapter. If you bought it used, you can buy it from the guys for 13 bucks. This has a + and - wires and a place to plug it the RJ11 cable that joes between the V1 and its power supply.

Since I drive where radars are illegal, I did this:

You need to buy 2 aditional things from valentine for this install:
Concealed Display
http://https://store.valentine...0.gif

Remote Audio Adapter
http://https://store.valentine...0.gif

The Concealed Display shows you the direction, band, and strength of the alert.
The Remote Audio Adapter allows you to turn the unit on, off, adjust volume and ofcourse emits the sounds that the valentine usually does on its own.

These two things combined create a very concealed, undetectable, and unnoticible radar install.

BTW, I know that Integra's dont have an ignition switched power wire up near the map lights. I tried looking for one when trying another V1 setup and a lights setup, you just have to run a wire down the pillar and secure it with some good take, no biggie, the panels come off very easy.
