dashboard dimmer.....
i have a question, the 3 wires that connect to the plug that goes to the gauge dimmer in my car were frayed and they finally broke. after that happened, my corner and tail lights went out too. are they all connected to those 3 wires?? i checked the fuses and they are all fine. please let me know, and also, any suggestions to fix the problem
on the fuse panel it says that the same fuse controls the gauge cluster, the tail lights and the license plate lights.... could that have anything to do with it?
Yes it controlls the lights.. the 3 wires work where one is the feed and one goes to the exterior parking lights, licence the other though the dimmer and out to the dash/ cluster lights.
I had a similar problem a month ago. I have a 93 EX coupe. The dash lights went out. On most civics, the dash lights are on the same circut as the parking lights....so, if one of them goes out, the rest do too. However, not so in my case. I had no dash lights, but had all parking lights, exterior lights etc. Took it to an electrical guy, he quickly showed me it was a bad dimmer switch. To solve the problem, we simply connected the two wires together that connected to the dimmer switch (bypassing the dimmer completely). Now no problems, but, on the downside, I can't dim my lights. No bigge, I like having dash lights.
Also, if the wires are frayed, they could be grouding out somewhere too. I had that problem on my 87 CRX si. It had seen so much bumpy road, the wires finally frayed and kept grounding out and burning fuses. Had to trace all the wires to finally find the problem. Good luck.

That doesn't neccesarily mean ****. My stereo wouldn't work once. It ended up being a blown backup light fuse under the hood.
Check there too.

Funny, the same crap happened to my 92 vx. I bypassed the dimmer as well.

There were only two black wires going into my dimmer switch....although there are three input holes into the back of the dimmer switch. I simply connected two black wires that led to the dimmer switch. Maybe experiment a little if you have three wires. Also, you could get a cheapo voltmeter from radio shack and see which ones carry current and which don't when you have the lights on.
Voltmeters are just one of those things you should have. Like a screwdriver. You'll use it more than you think if you're a tinkerer.

do you have a jdm cluster? they dont dim. my dimmer switch broke too. to bypass the dimmer switch, connect the 2 wires that arent black with red-stripe
