Lowering suspension unsafe?
I almost have the money to get my suspension did. Now my dad doesnt want me to get it done because he says its unsafe.
His only argument is that lowering the car will make it unsafe. He says it lowers the front bumper and in a crash, my car will go under an suv and the impact will be more towards me.
Even if its true, i dont really care if that happens. *knock on wood*
1) Is this true? 2" doesnt really seem like it would make a big difference.
2) How can i convince him to let me do it even if it is true?
p.s. The car is registered in his name (im 17)... so i cant just go ahead and do it.
thanks

haha ive explained to him all obvious good points of it... like better handling if i have to swerve out of the way, like the braking thing... all that.
I compared it to taking medicine, and having the drop as a side effect. He loooves analogies and still didnt go for it. lol.

What are the chances that your lowered Integra will go under an SUV? You'd have to be really really low and going ultra fast to end up under and SUV.

its unsafe for the following reasons:
camber will be off
possibilities of knocking off your oil pan
cracking your tranny
ball joints upper and lower
drive axles could snap
destroying tires
dont do it.....

Two days ago, I saw a lowered Celica under the rear of a Grand Am. The rear wheels of the Grand Am were actually off of the ground. This was in a 35MPH zone. Only in Ohio.

Even if your car isnt lowered it will probly still go under... i mean, an SUV is high and ur driving a compact 2-door car... 2" isnt really taht much of a difference in terms of height. Lowered or not... if you crash an SUV, ur F***ed
Did u tell ur dad that ur call will look a lot better?? and that it'll get u more chicks?.. haha

tell him there was a recall on all suv's.... j/k
tell him you need new shocks and while your at it that you should get lowing springs,
or get coilovers and lower it lil by lil to make it less noticable

Try to compromise... look for springs that won't lower it as much as 2", like the Eibach Pro-Kit, Comptech Sports, or H&R OE Sports.
My suspension on my 96 GS-R consists of Comptech Springs and AGX shocks and the drop is perfect, at least in my opinion. Not too low, not too high.

tell him, that if he lets you get the lowering springs, you'll let him pay for one driving lesson to help you with your driving skills so crashing in the SUV will be minimized with your improved driving skills.

Now that's just bad driving. The drivers fault, y0! Unless the grand am backed up and onto the Celica...
Tell him it will improve handling, so in case you see yourself about to hit a SUV, you can rip VTEC and dodge out of the way Johnny Tran style.
