I will be swapping out ACT discs soon..and wanted to know which clutch was harder to drive on for the street. 4puck or 6puck?

Also on top of that, I know this question has been asked to death, but I have found many different answers. The question is: Is there a proper way to break in a 4puck/6puck unsprung clutch? I've heard responses ranging from:

1. Drive normal for 500miles
2. Drive the car hard upon initial startup after clutch install
3. Do burn outs upon initial startup after clutch install
4. No prep,break in, or procedures at all after clutch install

So which is it?

As for me, i hear there is no break in period for "Puck" clutches. I had mine for like 1000 miles and i beat the hell out of it since day 1 We even pull my tranny apart, everything looks perfect

 

4 puck is harder to drive due to instant/quicker engagement.

as for break in, do whatever you please...i myself ran a 6 puck and now running a sprung 4 puck and i haven't even tried breaking my clutches in. runs perfect till this day.

 

i have a 4 puck xtreme and i beat on it since day one and its been about 1 1/2 year old and its still holding up to 300whp daily driven

 

pucks do no require break in...

MOST full face disk do unless there made of strong *** ***** that will barely wear down unless you glaze it really bad.. lol

I'm looking for a action next.

I just put in my ACT 6puck. just drove it normal for a couple miles to make sure it was all set then beat the hell out if it and auto-xed the next day. I woulden't worry about it, just make sure you don't baby it too much.

 

the 4 puck will be harder to drive on the street and will probly not last as long as a 6 puck do to the fact there is more surface on a 6 puck, there is no brake in on a pucked clutch

 

Ask Rocket, it depends on the clutch material.

Haha..we did..but after doing some searching on honda-tech..I found so many different feedback..so i got weary...and wanted to set the record straight.

There is on thread on here where ACTman says you need to not shift super hard for a while to "lap" the new surfaces together so 100% of the surface area is used. This was in there new instructions for puck clutch break in apparenty. As long as you do a little street driving before drag racing it I bet youd be fine.

 

I wanted to ask you guys your opinions since iv never driven a car with a puck setup. Is it real harsh or is it still streetable or should i stick with the highest disc setup. Im gonna get an act but now im thinking i should get a puck setup since im shooting for mid 300hp with my setup. Any feedback is appreciated and sorry for jacking your thread but i didnt want to make a new topic for it.

Puck clutches are really not that bad. I currently have a full street ACT disc..and will be swapping to a puck clutch real soon. I've driven friend's cars who run a 6puck clutches, and to be honest..its really not that bad. After a day or two of driving, you should be used to where the engagement is. 4puck clutches on the other hand will be a lot more annoying for the daily commute.

I've got a Spec Stage 3 6 puck clutch. Sprun. I LOVE this clutch.

Engagement is smooth (a little harder than stock, but not bad at all) and it's not heavy or anything. It's badass.

For the breakin I took it pretty easy on the first 100miles, then progressed harder and harder on it till about 250-300. Took it to the strip at 650 and it's still working great MAN I love that clutch.

 

most ppl do 100-400 miles in less than a months worth if your car is a daily driver...

get the 4...i loved mine....if u never drove a 4-6puck b4 it might take u a few weeks to get used to it...(you'll see it in the 1st week of driving)...than after that you'll fall in love with it. Can be annoying sometimes w/ slow traffic, but than again u gain sum nd u lose sum...no biggie
