Default 91-95nsx or s2k?

hey guys, i really need your help here. pleease give your honest opinions and wihth supporting facts on which car i should get or is better. the 91-95nsx or an 02-03 S2k. i honestly can't decide. one of the problems or not a problem but negatives in my opinion or shall i say stupid thing is buying a car (nsx) that is 10 years+ old for about 30k's+ where as with the s2k i will pay around 27+ for an 02+ car. but overal, are they almost similar performance wise? well the nsx obviously is faster, but which car for that price is worth it or woudl you guys think would be the smarter choice?

In all honesty I'm not sure the NSX is "faster" than the S.

The S is a great car, and is a great dollar/performance bargain.

Another thing to consider is wear items.. just about everything on the NSX is extremely expensive.. ie chaning clutch etc is not much fun on a midengine vehicle. (you would thing it would be similar to a FWD platform only backwords, but I have "heard" quite a few horror stories.)

Also any aftermarket upgrades for the NSX are extremely expensive.

also keep in mind the NSX first came out in 91'. Not to say they haven't made changes to the newer models, but the S is far ahead in terms of desing IMO.

The only thing I can really see the S losing out in is resale value.

i say go with the s2k, it's more practical. i dunno if you're gonna drive the nsx or the s2k as your daily driver, but i think the s2k would be a better choice... and yes as you said it's a newer car...

i say nsx, i have an s2 w/ a hardtop, and the nsx just makes me go . you dont really see alot of them no matter how old the car is it still looks imo.

and plus i rarely see young people driving nsx mostly older folks.

1) not faster? i beg to differ. even if its 'not faster' stock for stock, sinking 5k into the s2k ( something that a lot of people do) and sinking 5k into the nsx will net much larger gains w/ the s2k (motor wise). And the amount of possible gains are also much much higher (potential i should say)
2) Though nsx upgrades are very expensive, i would say that s2k upgrades are just as bad. i mean...shoot...1200 bucks for a header for a 4 cylinder? a set of comptech headers for an nsx can be had for about 1600...and thats for a v6 mind you.

i woulda hardly say the s2k is more of a pratical car to have, in all honesty....their both "crazy" cars to own, especially to daily drive ( i say to daily drive, because if you weren't DD it, praticality wouldn't be an issue)

I think it really depends on what NSX you find also. If it's low miles and a great price....shoot...you have to get that!

I would pick the NSX over the s2k as long as you're getting one great deal on the NSX. But you also can't go wrong choosing an s2k. So it all comes down to what NSX you find I think. Good luck finding one though with a good price, cuz I'm still looking too!

Is there a reason why you're only shopping '91-'95 NSX? Is money a factor? Then, it's probably not the car you want to get.

If I were you, I'd look into '96+ model with upgraded tranny & engine.

'91-'95 NSX vs. '02+ S2000... hmm, I'd rather get a S2000 as they still have warranty and they are pretty fun to drive.

If it's '96+ NSX vs. '02 S2000, I'd get an NSX, even though it will be considerably more expensive than the S.

look here: http://www.nsxprime.com

z06 is quite possibly the best bang fo the buck when it comes to "super cars", in all honest...its a smart buy, but i'm gonna be "dumb" and say that i would never EVER ever ever get it. for one reason actually...driving down the street in my z06, i wouldn't feel to great pulling up to a 55 year old lady in a convertible vette who is a stay @ home wife. there's really no distinction between the z06 and the base for most people (but to the untrained eye, its easy to tell). its a great car, but its too much of a common car. driving by in a vette really gets no stares...they're just so common. driving by in a nsx, 911, gtr or ferrari....well, you get the picture.

also ontop of that, i've ridden in a vette or two, and for some odd reason...i have experienced quite a few "creeeeeeaks" in them. dont know what from, but even in the newer vettes, they do creak quite a bit. something i wouldnt expect for a late model $50k dollar car

If I were to do it again, I'd get a NSX. More comfortable care IMO.

Although the maintenance is slightly more.

I'm in the same situation. I want both cars, but which one to get? Unfortunetly, when parts need replacing on NSX's, its really expensive. I was searching on nsxprime.com for clutch replacements, and I've found that it'll cost about $2000 with labor. If that happens, I'll be really hurting. S2k is a great car to own. It's really affordable for what you get.

Get the NSX if you've got a big wallet for maintenance.

Get the S2k if you're on a budget.

Such a tough call. I just know that a major service for an NSX over here costs £1200 ($2000). But the Noise of that C30A.... I love the noise of the F20C, but the NSX is worth buying for the noise alone. Try and save up for the 96 model as previously suggested. C32A and 6-speed gearbox make the difference to sell my body to maintain it!!

If finances are that much of an issue, I'd go with the S2K. Despite the reliability and performance prowess of the NSX, it still needs regular maintenance. And I wouldn't recommend the NSX to someone who wasn't going to take care of it.

The NSX upgraded the engine in 1997, not 96.

For ease of modification you will want only a 91-94 as it's OBDI and uses a throttle cable. Starting in 95 it uses a throttle-by-wire system that standalone ecus can't do and 96 brought in OBDII. Of course the TBW and OBDII can be changed back but it's a pain in the ***.

If you are going to put a lot of money in the car on the performance side... you should probly go with the s2k simply for the fact that it is a newer car and there are going to be a lot more performance parts on the market for the s2k... but even if that is true if i had the money i would go with the nsx... that is one hot car

Drive both and decide. I did and chose the NSX.

I've got an '01 S2000 with a Vortech supercharger. It's in the process of being parted out and sold to make room for a '91-'92 NSX.

What is the purpose for buying the vehicle?

Is it a daily driver, track bitch, or just a weekend cruiser? Can you afford the maintenence on the NSX? Do you know what the insurance rates will be for each?

I would lean heavily towards the S2000 if you want a daily driver and the occasional track meet. The S2000 can be punishing as a daily comuter though. It just depends on your tolerance level. BTW, the beam pattern on the S2K is the best out there IMO. Excellent lighting at night.

However, I would get the NSX if it was a second car that would see only occasional driving and some track meets. That car is still a handling fiend.

Thanks alot everyone, great thoughs and well brough up ideas... I'm in the same ball park. Have round about $35,000 cash to purchase a car, and still have a normal job to make extra money for wheels, suspensions, seats, and few mods... Same two cars im debating over only a 04+ S2000 or 91-96 NSX. Would be buying mainly a weekend driver... Let me know if you have any other thoughs.

Ps I also have two other cars a speed demon 00 Jdm frontend DC2 w/ H22a on 12 psi, and a daily driver 93 Accord.

If you have a daily driver NSX all the way. Mid-Engined and an assload of fun. You've driven enough FWD cars already
