I have a 95 civic coupe. I noticed that my engine is quite rusty (engine mounts, bolts, brackets,etc.) is there any recommendations at how to clean this? please help me. i cleaned out my engine bay, but appearance wise , it is still ugly as hell. thank you.

 

You could probably try some TC-11

 

I don't think you'll be able to remove rust from bolts or mounts. You might have to replace the bolts with new ones. For engine mounts you can just sand the rust off and spray paint it black for an OEM look.

 

Man I would love to go out in the garage one morning and just replace all the nuts/bolts, wire brush all the surface rust away and spray paint it.....man that would be fun but I doubt it will happen. But you gotta figure if someone does it to an old muscle car or street rod, why can't you do it to a Honda?

 

i was thinking about replacing all the nuts and bolts... but where the hell am i going to get all that?

 

dealer so that you get all the right sizes. might cost more but then again no reason to get from a pick a part since the bolts/nuts will also be rusted.

 

Take them off and spray them with a rattle can.

 

i do exotic sports car restoration for a living. i do this **** everyday.

remove all the bolds you want cleaned. get them cadded(or chromed), and THICK paint(make sure you mask off the threads so it will still thread on)

just painting will not work for very long. the rust will eat it and it will continue to rust.. by cadding the pieces you stop the rust.

or if you wanna cheap out but still do a fairly respectable job.. a beat blaster is your best friend...

 

im going to get a cheapy rock tumbler and some metal media... let that go at it for a day or so, shines right up, and it doesnt mess up the threads, a friend and i did it to his old car

 

here are some examples of what im talking about, i found some tumblers at a yard sale today, my friend already had one though, in their catalog they have metal media for removing rust and stuff....

works pretty good, just dont forget you'll still gotta do a little work, but get a can of clear or your favorite color paint and spray em up, in case you need help, get a long magnent strip and hang it, put the bolts to it and it holds up fine while your painting.... works good for small things like all the little bolts, bigger things arent so easy, but they make larger size units specifically for doing this not from harbor freight though

 

ive never done that (rock tumbler/metal media) . i will definitely try that out , just got to hook up with the right people down here. everyone here says i should just swap out the engine and save my self the headache. what do you guys think? maybe a B-series?
well that would be nice. but, ill see what i can do with my Sohc engine for now. thanks alot!
