My H22 in my Accord died on me this past weekend. HEEEEEELP!!
I messed up my engine. I had a guy take a look at it and he estimated the repair cost to be about 2 grand!!! The spark plug tip was bent. He said it might have been a rod or piston or something rather. My car starts but it has a really rough idle and then goes dead after like 2 seconds accompanied by a ton of smoke from the exhaust. Another guy who didn't look at my car but after describing the symptoms to him he told me that repairing it was not worth it and that I should use the 2 grand toward a new motor. The problem is I don't have 2 grand. Anyone know whats up? Is 2 grand a rip off? If I needed just a rod and a piston wouldn't it be a lot less even if labor cost is ridiculous. This was my daily driver and not having a car is a b*tch. I'm ready to part this car out but if the repair was within a reasonable price I would probably keep it. Anyone want to come work on my car?
have it looked at thouroughly by someone/someplace you trust and find out exaclty whats going on and then I would go from there
The guys who looked at your motor are correct. It seems your motor is blown since you describe it emitting white smoke, bent spark plugs etc. Its best to either buy another Accord motor or save up for a H22.
To check for a blown piston - have your mechanic or yourself do a compression test. This will tell you if in deed there is internal damage. Also, I would recommend a leakdown test as well - something could be wrong with the head - like a bent valve or valves.
This is were I would start instead of aimlessly throwing parts at it hoping to fix it right off the bat.
Just my two cents!

how did you mess up the engine???
you misshift?? nawzzzz?? what up? if the spark plug tip got bent can you imagine what happened to your valves??
Um im no expert but if he didnt scar the Block or Pistons . Cant he just get a NEW head and machiene it then replace it and give that a try? I mean if the Block guts are still ok. save him a crap load of headache and money.

You wouldn't have compression then dude, it wouldn't even run for "2 seconds."

Um im no expert either but I do understand how an engine works. No he can't simply just replace the valves. Explain to me how the piston is going to have any contact whatsoever with the spark plug during a normal stroke? Therein lies the clue to the whole puzzle, replacing the bent valves won't fix what caused them to bend in the first place (and no it can't be the head gasket either). Sounds to me like a broken rod and/or piston.
From personal experience bent/burnt out valves will not give you smoke (if your rings and seals are good). But yeah more than likely if the spark plug is bent so are the valves. However it could be that the valves for the other cylinders are fine, either way the head will probably have to come off.
Best place to start would be to check your compression. You can get an idea (gauge is best but this'll work for now and its free) of what you're looking at by opening up the throttle, hold your finger over the spark plug hole, and having someone turn it over. Any scraping sounds or anything we should know about?
