what is my engine????
I hear alot about engines such as b16 or h22 what is this and what is my engine, or how could i find out? I drive an 04 civic w/ a 1.7 vtec.
Also, could i install a twin cam head on my 04 1.7 vtec block? Is this possible?
Thanks
Peace out

b16 or h22 is the code that the manufacturer uses to indentify the motor. the number after the letter is the size of the motor. b16 is a 1.6 liter. h22 is a 2.2 liter. b16 comes from si del sol's, or from i believe 99-00 civic si's. the h22 usually comes from preludes. i'm not sure about 04' civics, the only 1.7 liter engine i have ever seen from honda/acura is the 92-93 gsr motors. like i said, i'm not sure about 04' motors, but if its a b17, you should have no problem putting a b-series dohc head on it. look on the block, located to the lower left of the header. it will say either b17, or whatever it is, that will tell you. good luck......
you have a single cam 1.7 liter D17
you can swap a DOHC VTEC motor into your car.....but not just a head swap
if you can afford it......swap in the RSX K20 typeS motor.....200hp

One to find out is to measure everything. If the cylinders are placed in different spots then the combustion chambers then it doesn't look its going to happen.

So is there anything i can do to really improve my hp and torque?
How much gain would i get from a cold air intake?
How much gain with a cold air & header?
How much gain with a cold air & header & cat back exhaust?
Keep in mind im on a tight budget.
Thanks guys
Still a newbie with imports.

despite what it may say on the box, you wont get as much of a hp gain as they say. cold air is anywhere from 10-15 hp gain, header is 15-20, and cat is around 15-20 also. it all really depends on what company you go with, and what model you choose as well...
if you want some extra horses, you should look into an aftermarket intake manifold or fuel products, such as injectors, fuel rail or fuel pressure regulator. but all the mods you listed are the basic to start out with...

sorry there buddy but these info u give out are inaccurate. cai do not give this much power nor the headers.in real life u only gain 3-5hp. do not be sunk in to advertisement that company claims.if these were true then sports car from manufacturer would have these installed off the assembly line like the m3,nxs etc..

yup, pretty basicly
seriously any bolt on you do isn't going to net that much more power. It may sound nicer, make you feel better but its not magical. Its not going to give you 300 horses and enough power to spank a viper (or insert any car here).
You said your tight on budget. Seriously, save your money and when the time comes get a new car if you want power that bad.
Its not that your car is a pile of ****, its just that there's not much you can do with it.
Oh yeah and all those company "horse power gain" numbers... well they may have been true for their "tests" but it doesn't mean it happens in adverage situations. And don't go adding up numbers x = +15hp, y= 10hp, z = 5hp. X+Y+Z doesn't mean you get 30 horses. If that was true it would mean my civic would have 190 horse with only bolt ons... That would be ideal in a ideal world, but its not going to happen.
If bolting on parts to your car makes you feel better, then do it. Who cares what other people say, if it makes you happy then so be it. We're not trying to put you down, we're just giving you information and trying to tell you that power doesn't magicaly appear with simple parts, it takes more.
Like I said do what makes you happy, we're just here to help inform you.

Where I come from, any modification to the engine - especially one as major as turbo or supercharging - instantly voids the warranty. BETTER READ IT, AND READ IT WELL.
I thought you were on a budget...
