valve spring rmeoval
You can remove a valve spring by taking sprk plug socket and put it over the center of the retainer. Then take a hammer and hit the socket. This will dislodge the keepers and the retainer will come off. Just be sure to be careful when doing this as you don't want the spring to come back at you. You will need the honda tool to put the head back together though. There is no way around that.
A valve spring compressor is going to make the job much easier.

It's even on sale...very much worth it IMO.

mother! that would have been so much easier! we used a socket to remove all the stock R retainers/springs from my friends type-r and then used a c-clamp and cut the side out of a socket to re-install the portflow springs/retainers.. it got the job done but was kindof sketchy! :D
