Mini Me Y8 head or Z6 head
which head should i use for this project? I hear the comp is higher in the Y8 but i think its obd2 and if thats the case im going with the z6. Also this head is going on a d15b2 block. How much is involved with that block there are no writeups on the block. And how can i build up the block to take it to 7k rpm. Also a friend is selling me a port and polished y8 head for 100 bucks should i do it? What kind of dist will i use for each head and what is the easiest rout for the wiring since i have dpfi. I get the parts on friday and i need to know which head i should go with by then please help me out thanx

try this write up
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053
it tells you how to a swap on a D15b7, but it should be sround the same. you should change it to mpfi...

I just did the Y8 head on a d15b2 and I'm also curious as to what compression I'm running. Any Ideas? (The previous link to the write up on the d15b7 block is dead on) Use it.
i want to go obd1 i thought the z6 was obd 1? yes i did read that write up and i understand everything but i want to know the outcome of a y8 head vs a z6 head if the comp difference is worth it. I def want to go obd1 i would like to use something stronger than a si ecu because i plan to build the block so i can do 7k or 8k rpms( and suggestions on that are welcome) Is the y8 obd1 or 2 and 88si how is your swap holding up?

i am about to do a z6 swap in my d15b2 block... personally, after reading all the comparison and writeups.... i did decide on the z6 since it has better port flows... and w/ b2 block... i got a better rod /stroke ratio of 1.59 than the d16 block...which is 1.52... this would make huge difference... yes z6 is obd-1 and y8 is obd -2 ..but since i am lazy and dont want to mess with the wirings i have decided to stay obd-0... i will use my existing dx harness to convert to mpfi wiring... you can use a d16a6 dizzy w/ custom mounts to fit it in a z6 head.. you can talk to iastreetracing, member of this board about his custom mounts...
as for rebuilding the block for higher rpm stability i would recommend resurfacing/honing the block... maybe shotpeening the rods... cant think anymore getting late... try more research..

oh one more important think...since you are planning to get 7k-8k rpm range... i hope you are not just planning to rebuild just your bottom end... i recommended rebuilding your z6 or y8 head also... get stronger valves and valve springs... you dont want to have floating valves w/ 7-8k rpm ...also p&p the head... and get better cams... HTH
I plan to go with the z6 for sure now especially since the y8 has that 0bd2 crap. Well my next question is how much would a T25 bring me to as far as hp. I think i woul like to put a small turbo on. I would shotpeen piston rods and put new bearings in. Might get new pistons. I would p&p the head with stronger valves and springs. i would use a t25 turbo with a subaru legacy intercooler. Have people been throwing turbos on mini me's and how do they hold up?

yup some people have small turbo and i believe a couple here on the board w/ t3 turbos... dont know much about turbo... but if you gonna turbo route now.. get low compression pistons.. and stay in the CR 9.6s area... swapping the z6 to b2 ups our CR at least 10.1... either that or go the cheaper way w/ thicker head gaskets... that should help you decrease CR by at 0.4 to 0.6
what the hell are you guys talking about needing to build the head and block to go 7K rpm, the stock redline is 7200 and thats just the redline, also wondering if its a good idea to put a vtec head on a d15 block and rev it to 7200, can teh stock block take it? if it cant that blows for anyone doing d15 minimes, being unable to redline your vtec motor will make you fall way out of the powerband
Depending on what head gasket you use . D15B w/ Y8 head and gasket is 11.08:1 compression.If it's a d15b or d16a6 head gasket it's 10.76:1 compression. D15B w/ Z6 head 10.32:1 w/ D15 or D16A6 head gasket.If it's a Z6/Y8 head gasket 10.62:1 compression.

rebuilding your stock block increases reliability in high rpm... considering that you got 100k + on that block... maybe you should do some research .... stock redline for a nonvtec is 6500... vtec is approx 7200-8000 rpm ... the flat top pistons & rod/stroke ratio for a d15 mini-me is 1.59 (stock block is capable of handle 7800 rpm safely) better than the d16's which only has 1.52...which means, a d15 gives a better handle in rpm .... yes it a good idea to put a vtec head on a d15 block its called a mini-me...a lot of people in this board have done it...ex. bauleycivic

pls do your RESEARCH and there is a function called SEARCH

if you PLAN on going obd1 then use the entire d16z6 motor minus the tranny of course. Get a 90-91 Si tranny and you'll be good to go!
PS. There's nothing "obd" about the actual HEAD. (other then dist). all the sensors and other obd related crap is on the Intake Manifold.
