Honda Challenge - Hyperfest... WHO WON???
I <u>think</u> what happened is that as NASA-Virginia was ready to publish, Scot's comments about passing the pack of 944's before the bridge came to Politi's attention, which started another thinking process and analysis.

Because of how long it has already taken for everyone to work their way through the appeals processes (Cobetto finally stepped in personally), it might sound like a joke, but I really do think that Politi is concerned about Scot's comments about passing the 944's, even though I haven't heard about a driver protesting the pass.
I'll send him a PM and see if he feels that he's in a position to answer...but it's really none of my business and he's not obligated to answer.
I'm speculating based on the hue and cry and observations of the tenor of things over the weekend.
I can't think of any other reason why the results wouldn't have been published by the Thursday after a race weekend.

Their webmaster is a guy out of the southeast and he's got his own things down there to worry about. I'm not saying that's the reason, just a possibility that was offered to me.
FYI - Despite my dad doing Registration and making the request, us Cup guys haven't seen Sunday results either.

I just figured they had already been posted on the Honda Challenge board and that was that. Wouldn't have thought a protestable change could occur based on comments on a web board but I guess if the results weren't final ??

The pass may have been stupid but it isn't "illegal" and certainly not something to go back and re-examine everything over.
His exact words were "It was a low-percentage move" which means that the probability of success was much lower than its probability of catastrophic failure. It in now way implies its legallity. In fact we both know Jim well enough to know that if it was an illegal action, he would have said so.
Even if he didn't like the move he is not in a position to start motions against Scot. He could suggest it but beyond that is about it - and that would be ASSUMING that Scot's pass was against a rule somewhere. If there was no contact and no one gained or lost a position AS A RESULT then there is nothing to protest and hence no incident.
Don't over-speculate on things George.

I could have sworn I read here maybe "results have been posted" or something to that order in one of the first summit point threads. Since I couldn't see any thread here w/ any results, I thought it meant they were up on the private site. Was just a SWAG thus the "had figured."

This got me thinking and I'm sure you guys know the answer. If a flag station has a yellow flag out and the previous station was clear, can you pass anywhere before and right up to the station with the yellow out, or can you NOT pass *** soon as the station is in view?

The general rule is "race to the flag" but make sure the pass is complete BEFORE the station. If it is not a full course yellow you can pass once you have passed the incident if there are no stations after it showing a yellow.

From 2004 NASA CCR:
"25.5 Yellow Flag- Passing
A pass must be completed before the yellow flag station. This means that the overtaking
driver must be completely in front of the overtaken car before either vehicle breaks the
plane perpendicular to the track as defined by the yellow flag. No racing to the yellow
will be tolerated. Harsh penalties WILL result for any passing under yellow flag
situations."

It is my assumption that it's the overpassing car's responsiblity to make sure that the pass is completed before the yellow, and the risk the driver assumes by racing/passing.
I could be wrong, but that's the only way it makes sense to me. If you know the flag is there you better be damned sure you can make the pass before it.

In essence, though, isn't is always racing to the yellow unless someone lifts? I mean, I may be a car length ahead by the time we get there but that mean we're not racing to it. I guess they mean no "neck and neck" to the yellow... which is pretty close to impossible if you're barreling down to T1 trying to out-brake someone.
edit: I guess that's why I generally won't pass if I can see the yellow. I want to make sure I'm in the clear... but other's may do it differently.

I agree.
If they say you can pass up to the flag but need to have it completed by the time you cross the plane is that not racing "to the flag"?

If you don't know the yellow is there then you really aren't racing to the yellow...you're just racing.
If the yellow was there before, then you're taking the risk of it still being there, and if you're racing to it then it's a no-no.
Again...just how I'm interpreting it.

There is nothing that says you have to lift or slow down. The yellow means no passing, bring your car under control and be aware that there is an incident ahead. If a car spins in 1 and is sitting across the track you will most likely get a yellow at start/finish. Does that mean you have to slow down and drive at a reduced pace down to 1? Not based on what I was told in my competition school. In fact the ONLY question I got wrong was the yellow flag question. I chose the more conservative answer and Jim yelled at me.

If I know the yellow is there but I think I can complete a pass before it, aren't I racing to the yellow? We're both still trying to go as fast as possible, me to complete the pass, him to prevent it.... we're both still racing, right?

I wasn't saying that you should lift, just that it's racing if neither of you do. In other words, you both have the intention of going as fast as possible before the flag and are therefore racing to it.

And if you make the pass then you are at fault because it is your responsibility to know the yellow is there.
If I have a run on someone coming out of 10 and as I exit the corner onto the straight and see a yellow at start/finish I am gonna try to complete the pass before I get there. The rules SPECIFICALLY say this IS allowed AS LONG AS the pass is COMPLETE before I get to the plane of the flag:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">A pass must be completed before the yellow flag station. Making the pass before the flag IMO IS racing to the flag - which is where the contradiction comes into play.
Now maybe the difference is that the rule says the pass must be completed and you need to be in front of the other car as opposed to just having a fender or something ahead (which in normal green flag racing constitutes a pass - at least in regards to "owning" the corner).
