stiffer, less strands and thinner jackets too. its your car, go ahead and use welding cable.
yes it will work and no most people probably wont be able to tell the difference between "welding" cable and "power" cable, but they make it for a reason. yes the more strands that are present, the better the current flow and it also makes it much more flexable too.
just my $.02

Actually you are wrong. The welding cable had more strands. Before you state things you think you know as facts you might want to go to your local welding shop. Wouldn't you think a welder would like to be able to move his welding rod in any direction he wanted? The jackets are much more durable that normal power wire jackets. Hell if I was a welder and had 480 volts running through a wire that jacket better be damn durable.
Yes they do make high end power wire for a reason. To take your money.

my point is that car audio cable is specifically designed for the automotive environment. meaning the extreme temperature changes, chemicals found in the automotive environment and the shielding is designed for high vibration and cutting or rubbing through the jacket. there are reasons other than taking your money for car audio wiring also i have only seen welding cable in black, and that isn't the best color for power wire in the vehicle. in addition to using any "type" of 2ga wire, the accessories are alot more and harder to find since it is not a commonly used gauge.

im not thinking of using it for power wire in the vehicle
just as ground and power upgrades in the engine
on my compressor for example it has 2 awg red wire for the starter and alt and 2awg black wire for the grounds
thats what i want to do with it, id never use it for power wire to be used in the audio system

When I became an installer , 30 years ago, there were no monster, stinger, PH gold, EFX. so we used welding cable, and I still do to this day, my "shop" wire is Blue Streak welding cable.
Today our EFX rep. was in the store to show us there new line, and he brought in a 100 ft roll of there new "yellow" 8ga power wire , well I just happend to have a 100 ft roll of blue streak welding cable, and after sitting through the shpeel about the new wire, I got out the DMM and did a resistance test on both,
EFX=7.390 OEMs
Blue streak 0.763 OEMs
