Default CRV tuning

Has anyone every tried any tuning with a CRV, aside from maybe a cat back. We have a 1998 CRV ex 5sp that is soon going to become my brother's car and I was wondering what types of things I could do to zip it up w/o screwing it up and making it unreliable.

I know it has b- series platform, which is great, but because it is an EX is is AWD. Does this limit the amount of performance modifications that can be done. I'm guessing that if we had the cheaper LX (FWD) you could swap in a b16vtec head and run LS/VTEC in the CRV (that'd be pretty tight). However, I'm wondering if I'm in a totally different arena bc the car is AWD.

Can you run LS/VTEC in an AWD CRV? Has anyone tried. Any other tuning suggestions.
